Glory Road tells the inspiring story of the underdog Texas Western basketball team, with history's first all African American starting lineup of players, who took the country by storm, surprisingly winning the 1966 NCAA tournament title. Josh Lucas stars as Hall of Famer Don Haskins, the passionately dedicated college basketball coach that changed the history of basketball with his team's victory in this time of innocence. (Disney)

"What's that? Matthew McConaughey is off filming a football movie? Hmm, who else can we get?" The story is worth telling, and that's what keeps it going, but it's a pretty standard sports movie. The sequence where the players deliver punchline after punchline about moving to El Paso is awkwardly terrible and forced.

Cookie cutter sports movie, but still a great story and worth watching once.

It's very much the average sports movie, but the great true story leads it to be enjoyable enough.

I was hoping for a little bit better of a story. I really get into true stories, especially when they involve sports; however, this one fell way short of the mark

What was so monumental about Texas Western's showdown with Kentucky was the in-your-face stance against segregation Coach Haskins and his players took. In the movie, Haskins makes the last-minute decision to pit an all-black starting lineup against Kentucky's notoriously lily-white tradition, telling his players, "We're gonna stop this forever." The team's actions--and its ability to back them up on the court--truly did forever change collegiate sports' acceptance of black athletes. (plugedin.com)

While the team on-screen may be changing the game, there's nothing new at play here. Disney's got this thing down to a science by now, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun while it lasts. The soundtrack is solid, and Lucas has a fire in his eyes behind the bench, pacing with a soldier's swagger. It's a good performance, but basketball's the star here -- the people are just along for the ride. I just have to ask: Between this and 'Friday Night Lights', is there any sport Derek Luke can't play?

Favorite sports movie. Sure it's cliched, but it does it the best of any movie I've seen.
