buster in love with a cow, I'M IN. like most keaton movies it starts out a bit sketchy with too much exposition and not enough action, but when it finally gets there you get a full half hour of the best--as only buster keaton can do.

Buster befriends a cow that he must then save from the slaughterhouse. It's relatively light on jokes and by no means his finest work, yet still a neat piece of filmmaking replete with that timeless Keaton charm. As bovines go, Brown Eyes is just adorable.

Viewed February 14, 2022. Sort of like Buster Keaton's version of The Kid, except it's about him affectionately looking after a cow named Brown Eyes. This isn't Keaton's most memorable comedy, as it doesn't seem to have as many inspired or inventive gags, but the storytelling is so sweet and pure that it still suggests many of his strengths as a filmmaker. And I love the fake-out ending between Buster, the girl, and the cow.

Starts off rather slow, but has enough charme to keep you interested until the big finale. And what a finale it is!

Not a terribly remarkable work from Keaton, apart from some nice photography. It's just not very funny nor is it very creative. Keaton sure was a fan of long chase scenes, but the one featured here is one of the less amusing iterations. There are a lot of memorable images scattered about though, and it has a nice sense of location, what with all the desolate hillsides and such.

Meandering comedy-western feels unsure of its tone - much of the film plays out as an almost 'straight' western (and a fairly pedestrian one at that) -- but then Keaton the slapstick gag master emerges and all is well again - works best at the climax when a herd of cows invades New York (echoes of BLAZING SADDLES?)

It's Buster Keaton being funny with some good gags. There's a bunch of dead time, especially in the first half, but overall it's a good time.

Compared to most Keaton feature films the jokes aren't as funny, the stunts aren't as impressive and it can feel a bit aimless. Still it is amusing and rather sweet too.

Did jackasses use to be that big or is Keaton just small?

It has taken me too long to realize that Buster Keaton doesn't do anything for me.

The buildup may be a little slow, and it probably wouldn't make most shortlists of Keaton films; however, it is kind of sweet. If the notion of Buster Keaton making best friends with a cow and leading a cattle stampede is at all appealing, this is the picture where you get to see that happen.

not one of his best, but still very enjoyable

Keaton parodies Westerns and befriends a cow. It's this sweet bond between Keaton's friendless protagonist and loveable cow which makes it so endearing. The part on the ranch has some funny moments, but is a bit lackluster in gags. The beautiful scenery of the American landscape does make up for this. The final "chase" with Keaton leading a herd of cows through a city lacks tension cause the cows weren't allowed to stampede in the city, but does leads to some surreal funny situations.

The best comedy western ever made, which may not be saying much. Keaton dreams of gags both large and small, and builds them into a much more developed plotline than we often see from him. I don't love this one, but I like it a lot.

Cute, but a little light on good gags.

If watching a Buster Keaton flick doesn't make you smile, you're dead inside.

Not the best Keaton's film. But probably the cutest. And you must see the leading lady, by far she's most appealing he ever had in a movie.

Despite a fine performance from the buxom Brown Eyes, Go West never quite arrives at a compelling narrative destination, not to mention getting an audience to fall for an animal is like shooting fish in a barrel.
