Dreadfully shallow, like some uncreative high schooler just watched Taxi Driver and decided to adapt it to their generation. Full of gratuitous rants that stoop to the level of pandering, it starts with a fantasy murder sequence and never rises above it for the rest of the movie. America's in a bad place not only because of those who are bashed in this movie but also due to folks like Goldthwait, who lower the level of social and political discourse to infantile depictions like this.

A middle aged loser and a high school girl go on a killing spree to murder people who deserve to die. This is Bobcat Goldthwait's eloquent and extended "Fuck You" to vapid American pop culture and it's glorification of crassness, meanness and stupidity. Managing to be both blackly funny and incredibly thoughtful, and making inspired use of a few choice Alice Cooper songs, this film will likely go down as the pinnacle of Goldthwait's career. There's also a dead baby.

A rant against the supposed shallowness of America that is itself completely shallow. Time is spent reeling off lists of people with annoying habits but no time to examine the underlying causes of America's decline. It rants against enforced edginess in media, but opens with a baby being shot point-blank and has a gun-totin' swearin' underage sidekick. By focusing solely on rants against trivial things it never becomes deep enough to address real issues and is as vapid as the world it hates.

Simply awful. A film that is a man overreacting to stuff that can easily be ignored and that isn't new or a big deal. All the targets are easy YET they are all also not worthy of death or even acknowledgment. I can also hope that Goldthwait is smart enough to see the inherent hypocrisy in his premise but I even question that given how straight most of this is played and how often character rant about the evils of our culture straight to the camera. Only gets this much because it's well directed

A strange soap-box opera about a butthurt-induced murder spree peppered with subtle hints of suppressed carnal lust for, as the Knack would say, 'the younger kind.' Can grow a bit preachy at times, and the girl, despite her little monologue on how Diablo Cody sucks, comes off like the screenwriter's post-Jagermeister lovechild. Still, I enjoyed the parody TV shows and Larry Miller's deadpan delivery was perfect for the character. And any movie with an exploding baby gets an automatic 50 points.

Another white middle class male rages about the decay of society, just like all other elders since the beginning of civilization. Why should I care? Non-existent character arcs and incredible unsubtlety sure don't convince me. And I will hold the shallowness of its satire against it, for a satire that does not think things all the way through to their endgame is not a good satire. Culture is a reflection of societal values, not a cause, so just turn the TV off already.

I personally have no problems with the fact that the movie doesn't feel the need to dissect the root causes of the the decline of Western Civilization. Frankly, I wouldn't want to watch that movie. This is a simple revenge story. It's a revenge on stupid. Most people I know have wanted to bash someones brains in for something stupid or annoying, if you haven't maybe you're the one getting your brains bashed in?

It pretty much does and says what "Super" did but more directly to the audience. I really like "Super." This is worth watching but it doesn't have any interest in converting, only preaching to the choir. The choir that hates people. I don't know if we'll come out of quarantine hating people more or less.

I'm glad Bobcat could act out his fucked up fantasy in a movie rather than in real life. The problem with the movie is that the message is so obvious and it's just too preachy for its own good. We get it, some people are annoying. The opening scene is great though, too bad the rest of the movie didn't have the same deprived and morally bankrupt tone.

It's angry, it's raw, it's brutal, but sadly it isn't insightful or self-reflective at all. This is one man writing a livejournal entry that somehow he got to make a movie out of. The girl is distinctly unbelievable, and I would have liked to have seen more of what made her the way she is.

I guess it's a bit childish to get wrapped up in this vaguely onanistic fantasy of very smart people killing very stupid people, but I liked it anyway, not that such an opinion needs validating considering this review wouldn't make any sense to the people the movie is attacking, so I'm essentially only defending myself against intellectuals with a surplus of misguided empathy. Also, the girl with the bangs is a babe.

Bobcat Goldthwait's blackly comic howl against the emptiness and cruelty of modern life features a simple but fertile premise: an embittered businessman turns serial killer, and a misanthropic high-schooler joins him in taking on the hateful, the inane, and the obnoxious. Joel Murray perfectly combines rage and weariness, while Tara Lynne Barr shows amazing spirit and wit. Goldthwait's fine script sags in spots (over-speechifying), but its sincerity, twisted warmth, and anger are not dimmed.

Somewhat simple-minded satire. With a great performance by Joel Murray. Did not care for the girl's cheesy monologues, though. That whole character was just a little too incoherent. I had an absolute blast with God Bless America. It doesn't feel really original -- there are a bunch of "taking things into your own hands" kind of films -- but it does everything that it sets out to do and only missteps a couple of times. The film is very satisfying, contains more character depth than you'd expect going in, and is really funny. It has a couple of lead actors who should get huge career boosts after they're seen in their roles, and I can't recommend it enough. A must-watch movie.

Maybe i`m too tired with anti-mass-culture films that address the masses. It seems to expect having a greater impact than i give it credit for. Plus, i miss the subtlety. The main messages can be conveyed through more subtle techniques, but no, let`s put them in-your-face through mono-dialogue. Otherwise, it`s enjoyably bitter.

A fascinating, angry and vicious satire of the modern world; Goldthwait doesn't have any answers to the questions he raises, but there is no denying that the passionate anger (and fear) he has of modern society makes for a troubling, visceral (and brutal) experience, which admirably never pulls its punches. Murray and Barr are ideally cast, with Murray especially proving a (genetic?) talent for evoking this middle aged sad sack, without ever losing sight of his humanity.

I loved the trailer and hated the movie. Huge bait and switch with most of the really funny parts of the movie in the trailer. The tone was almost the exact opposite with its anti-America message set to a lot of low ball, low-brow political cheap shots. The opening violent scene involving a baby was as mean as the meanness he was supposedly fighting. The ending, a hit piece on American Idol, which deserves to be hit, completely missed the mark and was pointlessly mindless besides.

I really connected with it. Not so much an angry black comedy, as a touching road movie with hilarious comic scenes, and a few moments of beautifully executed cinema violence. This one is going to be a niche film - I won't try and defend it, just explain my connection with it: direction and camera work makes the film look magical, the comic timing is amazing, and I found I was able to sit back and listen to these characters dream out loud as they went on their journey.

It's obvious what the movie is directing its anger at. If you're a cranky old man, and accept that this movie applies to everyone in some way (like either they hate you or you hate something they hate), then you'll have a great time. They tackle bigger issues about America and whatnot, but then they go after little things like obnoxious movie-goers. The first little while is amazing, and while it gets a little more conventional, it stays good. Excellent satire.

This film delivered what I was expecting, namely a distilled stream of the director's signature brand of seething postmodern sarcasm and anti-establishment black humour. The two characters were likeable and portrayed well enough, and I appreciated how ruthless the duo were and how the script offered modern American life no shot at redemption. The movie is preachy with its message of anti-reality shows and being a nice person. I think it has to be though in order for you to have any compassion at all for the main characters who are by and by serial murderers. If you sympathize with anything Frank says, then the movie has you where it wants you. Putting you in the shoes of a man who found his breaking point and decided to make a point with the end of his life rather than go out having not changed anything. I loved It. semi-believable.

The first 30-40 minutes of this thing are so piercingly, brilliantly satirical that they're actually painful. The movie sags a little bit into conventionality after that, unfortunately, and the climax isn't especially surprising or insightful. It's classic stuff to start, though, and you've gotta hand it to Bobcat, who continues to roar in where few other filmmakers even try to tread. WORLD'S GREATEST DAD was sharper, though.

It really isn't so much funny as it is preachy. No more than 15 minutes into the movie, the main character starts going off on really long, really preachy monologues about things we already understand from his actions and from his prior monologues. Things tend to repeat themselves pretty often, and it really is a lot more angry than it is a funny or interesting story.

A preachy, petty ripoff of Falling Down made by someone who missed the point of Falling Down. This is the kind of story told by someone who thinks they are circling the drain. The Goldthwait who made World's Greatest Dad and Sleeping Dogs Lie would have pissed on pedestrian, sophomoric non-conformist platitudery like this; what the hell happened, Bob? Goldthwait's heart shows here and there, but at the same time I can't get over the sense that this just is a 100 minute screed against obnoxious pop culture. Supposedly Frank can't escape this nasty lowbrow media, but here's a question - Why doesn't he turn off the TV? Why doesn't he listen to classical music or watch Criterion DVDs if that's what is driving him mad. It's a lie - he's a pathetic psychopath trying to convince himself he has a moral code and Goldthwait's egging him on.

A promising opening gives way to a so-so odd-couple killing spree that makes a lot of noise but has little to say. The sanctimonious attitude of the the main characters is openly mocked but there's a lot of ambiguity there, meaning you're never quite sure what's intentionally ironic and what's unintentionally hypocritical. By the end you're just wondering what the point of the whole exercise was. Disappointing then, but has its moments and I'd still urge others to give it a go.

I don't care for writing reviews but must say something about my low rating of this movie. The idea behind it,the satire, the subject of things many of us are disgusted with in today's world and the director's take on it, would lead me to rate this a 90 but it degenerates into psychotic violence and becomes worse than the things at which it pokes fun. Oddly predictable 4 Goldthwait given its similarity 2 films like Falling Down. While there is some catharsis in watching the likes of Bill O'Reilly & people who talk in theaters get blown away, the problem is these complaints have been made b4, & they're only preaching 2 the choir. This falls on the deaf ears of the noxious boors who become huge "successes" as a result of the millions of similarly rude, tone-deaf Americans who love them. Still, the film speaks the truth & its targets r spot-on.

The simplicity of the premise is brilliant in that black humor sort of way: our culture is vapid, ineffectual, and counterproductive therefore people who contribute with their inane existences need to die. With social satire as sharp and biting as Jonathan Swift (but not nearly as sophisticated), a disposition that's acrid with a touch of depressive nihilism, and a post-modern inversion of films like Léon and The Boondock Saints, it's hard not to appreciate what Goldthwait was aiming for.

A long rant about our current cultural decline put to film. Unfortunately, once Bobcat establishes the basic narrative and character arcs there is nowhere to go. What it lacks, and what World's Greatest Dad had it spades, is an underlying humanity, a reason to care. Bobcat wants us to have some investment in this misguided duo, but they often feel like vehicles for his sermonising rather than fully fledged characters. Once the satirical shocks wear off, there is nothing to hold on to.

The two most damaging are the unfunny script (I laughed once) and the fact that the film is far too obvious. It treats the audience much like the people who it is satirizing. There was no need for the 10+ minutes of fictional television footage, nor the moronic newspaper headlines. Still, not as bad as most films.

The film has a very promising premise, number of catching monolgues and bright ideas about today's TV trash culture. Even though God Bless America follows, unfortunately, a very bitten path of shoot-them-up movies with unbearable suffer from the plot shallowness.

After a good opening, descends into a preachy, unfunny, slow-moving retread of things that both "Natural Born Killers" and "Super" did far, far better.

A really promising idea that gets somewhat foiled by the "quirky indie"-approach and sloppy finale. That said; Joel Murray delivers some great spot-on rants on American pop culture and the general state of things.

I had high hopes for this movie based on the trailers, but half way through I was just begging for it to be over. There are WAY too many endless rants from both the male and female characters.

A bizarre and sporadically eerie, but ever muddled, camp spin on Red Riding Hood by unconventional Irish writer-filmmaker Neil Jordan, featuring probably the cheapest, and most adorable, werewolves one could imagine.

Starts pretty good, with a pretty easy but exacting takedown of "American culture". Also liked the scene about no wanting to objectify a child a little later on in the movie. Unfortunately - even while it might be meant as parody of movies like Kick-Ass and that one with Rainn Wilson - after the movie goes into some nerd revenge fantasy on the "stupid" people it too becomes pretty much part of the problem he describes in the beginning. Pandering, lowest-common denominator, commercial.
