It's one thing to portray Godard as a scathing, angry curmudgeon, as that's undoubtedly who he is and always has been. But this film drags him through the mud in a way that suggests nothing but bitterness on the part of Michel Hazanavicius. He's bitter because Godard decided to move past the "funny movies" of the Nouvelle Vague and into the wild experimentation of the next 50 years of his career. He also might be bitter just because Godard is quite obviously more talented than he is.

The only explanation to the fact that this movie exists and Godard didn't drop dead yet is that he did not see it

It actually works as a comedy and I'm all for mocking the sacred gods of cinema, but in the end, it's just not an inspiring or sharp film in itself.

A likeable film about an asshole in a state of creative purgatory, and what's more likeable about it is that instead of projecting that creative funk, it projected the aesthetics of his previous work with love and care. Garrel and Martin do their real-life counterparts justice.

No, it's neither funny, smart or interesting. Just very annoying.

Ever wanted to see a visual depiction of Godard's penis? How about a cunnilingus joke... with Godard? Nor has anyone else! At best, Hazanavicius proves to be an admirer of film history--first of the silent era, here the French New Wave--through ample visual homages to the auteur's aesthetics. But if you want to learn about Godard and his creative shifts, merely just watch his films themselves. This hollow depiction of a legend whose power remains in his enigmatic presence contributes nothing.

Wasn't much of a comedy for me. I didn't know much about Godard aside from his films so this showed him as a complete hypocritical jerk...you know, we all have a friend/acquaintance like him, who talks a big game but can't deliver. There is some good commentary about a famous person wanting to move to another aspect of his career but failing to move past his initial success. Fav scene: Godard being a complete jerk to the war vet at the restaurant.

Sanat filmi. Louis Garrel'in başarılı oyunculuğu da hoş. Filmin sonunda, ya sinema ya siyaset. Gözlüklerim rayban parçala beni hayvan.

This is a somewhat stylish period drama of sorts - very much set in the 60s, with a lot of focus on colour and some passionate dialogue relating to the political beliefs and concerns shared by the group of activists it portrays. It's an intriguing film, a relatively easy watch, though not entirely memorable, its ok and probably worth a watch, yes.
