Poor Baragon doesn't get to be in the title of his best movie. I hope he didn't get shafted paywise. I remember geeking out when I read the initial reviews, so it only makes sense that it took me about 17 years to watch it. The special effects are dodgier than normal, and the Ghidorah design serves to remind us that he isn't half as cool as we remember. Still, it has the best qualities of the good Showa flicks (not the first one...that's a real movie), and it is purdy darn fun.

A great movie in the spirit of the original, in the scenes of violent destruction rather than a heavy emotional message. Still, it has great sound design, effects, and fight scenes. Plus Baragon finally gets some focus.

Baragon is kind of adorable, really, and cool looking. Godzilla is a giantic douche in this movie haha. The human characters aren't very good, but that's alright.

The costumes are very odd looking, but the pacing is quite good for a Godzilla picture.

I thoroughly enjoyed how incredibly terrified every human was at the sight of Godzilla. Full-on 'will be traumatised for life' mode. Makes sense, since Godzilla's acting like a total dick here. Amusing in it's lack of subtlety and for almost making the 'dudes in rubber suits' thing work in 2001. As always, any period of time spent with humans drags it down. Just like me at family events.

Some good: lots of mayhem, Mothra looks cool, good SFX. Some bad: awful dubbing, Ghidorah looks like crap, funny for the wrong reasons. I'm on the fence about this one.

The plot is just about as bad as it can be, but it somehow manages to rock despite this. Really just kicks quite some ass.

For most, this will arguably be the best film in the Millennium series, myself included. Stupid story and title, but Godzilla blows everything away, the film is just fun from beginning to end and I don't expect more from a Godzilla film.

This is the first Godzilla film I've seen from the Millennium series. I'm impressed. I like how Godzilla is his old mean self. And boy is he MEAN. The best scene was when the military dudes attempt to take him out with their missiles. They're of course unsuccessful. Godzilla gets PISSED and goes completely apeshit on the guys, blasting them away with his atomic breath. Brutal. Also, am I alone in feeling sad for Baragon? Poor little guy never stood a chance :(

I got way more out of this than I thought I would! Yuri made for a more interesting and compelling protagonist than we usually get out of kaiju films, and even the military story was done well. The effects with the suits was pretty impressive, and while I loved Baragon in this movie, he was ultimately unnecessary, and probably should have been left out to give the others more screen time. As always, Mothra is my favorite, even if her new design is a little weird.

For some reason I like that there's little continuity in the Godzilla universe. This particular film only relates to the very first, taking place 50 years later. It's a little shoddy at times, but enjoyable. I wish Baragon had been in it more; I like his ears.
