I never thought I'd see a cross between a buddy cop movie, pro-wrestling and brokeback mountain but, well, here it is. In fact it's a lot of fun!

True to form for Godzilla movies: so sloppy and juvenile, yet so sweet-spirited that it's thoroughly charming

When comparing it to all other movies, it's bad. When comparing it to the rest of the Godzilla movies, it's worse. When you're trying to find a reason to watch it, you have Jet "The Motherfucker" Jaguar.

Outside of the blatant recycled footage, the miniature work in this one just looks astounding. But the Jet Jaguar plot makes this feel less like a Godzilla film than a fairly bland backdoor pilot. The poor editing and awkward "undersea" scenes only makes it worse.

i gave it a 5 initially, but i was much more forgiving when it came to a repeat viewing. why? well first, i suppose i expected a 5 out of it. but i imagine the most important factor is i got the shock of a shitty ultraman(and ultraman is cheesy enough) ripoff out of the way and could enjoy the monster battles much more. i dont especially like megalon, but the scene at the dam was cool & there are cool battle moments with godzilla... if you watch closely. in the end the cheese can be almost fun

Scattered great moments - when the guy is thrown down a big hill, Godzilla's mad swagger - can't hide that it's actually kind of bad by most traditional measures.Still, go in with the right mindset and it'll put a smile on your face.

So...how about that scene where Godzilla slides on his tail?

The Seatopians are impressively ineffectual; all of them get their asses kicked by a child or their own hired goons. Even their kaiju protector Megalon is a chump. All the final fight was missing was some Jim Ross commentary.

On the one hand, this did symbolize the decline of the Godzilla franchise into cheap crap. On the other hand, Jet Jaguar.

Just skip this and go look up "Godzilla kick" on Youtube. Saved you 80 minutes.

Why are you interrupting a surprisingly progressive drama about a gay couple raising a kid with 30 seconds of Godzilla?

I used to watch this all of the time when I was a kid. It's really pretty awful and Jet Jaguar is a wuss but I like it.

How do you rank a movie like this?! All I can say is I enjoy it for what it is, and have seen it numerous times. So... pleasure rewatchability = OK despite its obvious goofiness and stupidity.

One cannot review Godzilla films with the same criteria one uses to review other films--they can only be compared within their own universe. That said, this is far from the best but far from the worst. Watch it if you like Godzilla.

One of my least favorite Godzilla films. Godzilla is barely in it. It's more like a Ultraman episode stretched out to 90 minutes with a Godzilla cameo. Oh yeah and lots of recycled footage.

The CONSTANT stock footage is employed expertly and subtly. Gigan and Megalon have two of my favorite Kaiju creature designs. Jet Jaguar is pretty goofy, and steals a lot of the spotlight from Godzilla. Camp factor through the roof, but pretty amazing what they were able to achieve on such a small budget!

This seemed like it was going somewhere, with the surprisingly-decent car chase kicking off the film, and the Ultraman-like Jet Jaguar costume looking pretty cool. And then there's the long slog until the monsters start beating the daylights out of each other (with, yes, Godzilla's amazing flying kick unhampered by his tail dragging along the ground). Fun for the pre-teens (and young at heart) but not one of the better titles in the franchise.

The baddies in this are from Seatopia, which must be among the laziest made-up names ever. Unfortunately not much effort has been put in the rest of the human plot neither, which is very lame and silly. Luckily kaiju battle, while short, is fun enough to make it all worthwhile. Godzilla does has a new suit in this and looks great. Human plot: lame silly. Kaiju battle: fun silly.

Caught a 35mm screening of a crusty print, and, while small, the crowd were right into it. By the end, it comes across as a particularly lavish and spectacular wrestling show. Wacky and fun.
