Beyond "Lullaby of Broadway," which stands up with all of Berkeley's great grand finales, this doesn't really have all that much to offer. It's the first one that just does not work as a comedy, and the musical interludes are few.

Not particularly special by any means, just an excuse to get to the 2 Berkeley dance numbers, which are doozies. "Lullaby of Broadway" is iconic.

Lovely Busby Berkeley musical comedy. Fun script, charming cast, beautiful production.

The love story interlaced with gold diggers isn't very good, and the Busby Berkeley big finish didn't come soon enough.

The story isn't terrible, but it's pretty hackneyed and uninteresting. Brady makes a very obnoxious antagonist. Powell doesn't really get a chance to show off his charm. Herbert's eccentric performance is mildly entertaining, but except for a few stand-out moments you're really just waiting for the big show at the end. But what a payoff. "The Words Are In My Heart" and "Lullaby of Broadway" are both amazing numbers, and they make it a lot easier to forgive the first hour of mostly lame comedy.

...of 1935 doesn't touch Gold Diggers of 1933, but it got all the touches Busby Berkeley is known for. Full of fun, energy and most importantly.... THE BUSBY NUMBERS! As for what was missing. Some real sparkle between the lovers! Dick Powell didn't get to be his most charming and none of the ladies was close to having the personality of '33. Berkeley is the master of filming visual montages of rhythm. The opening sequence and the two numbers at the end. All wonderfully done and made movie magic!
