Basically everything Session 9 was hyped to be. And unlike the ultimately disappointing (read, tame) exposition in Session 9, Gonjiam improved on every aspect and picked up a whole lot of influences along the way. That said, it'd be a mistake to call this derivative when it improved upon so many of the set-pieces beyond their (often clumsy) original versions. No, this isn't some high-brow, arthouse film, but it's a legitimately terrifying horror flick set in a dimly-lit derelict compound.

Top badass moment? Seeing another group of over-smug, tech-savvy Millennials getting scared shitless. That’s always worth a few minutes of anyone’s time. And if you're after lots of girly screaming, shaky-cam, torches shined in people’s faces and all the best bits disappearing off into the shadows really quickly, then you’re in for a real treat. It's a film that adds nothing new to the genera, but nevertheless does have some effective moments. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Asian spin on the haunted asylum genre. They did their own thing and it worked out really well for me. Some really interesting scenes in this one.

Nothing groundbreaking here but everything is extremely well done. Quite enjoyable and I actually jumped once or twice.

What starts off as "another" found footage film, quickly escalates into one of the scariest films I've seen (I literally couldn't stay sitting in some parts). Yes, it's troupe-y. But it does all of it really well and it is sold really well by the performances. The finale could have been better but it doesn't detract from the experience.

Watching this in the dark at night was a good decision, from a technical standpoint Gonjiam has some fantastic horror scenes (basement part is up there with the best bits of Blair Witch/REC). Needed some better characterization as the cast seemed interchangeable, and doesn't really do anything interesting with the format if you've seen a lot of found footage horror.

As plenty of people have said, Gonjiam didn't add anything new to the genre, but it was well executed, gave me a couple of jumps, and a couple of laughs.
