The mounting sense of dread in the movie has little to do with any terrors that may await, and much to do with the perceived unlikelihood of a satisfactory wrap-up. ("I wouldn't look for a real-world explanation," we are warned. "It's a dream. It's a delusion.")

A deplorable and annoying non-chiller, misdirected down to the spelling of its title. If you want to watch a "horror" film that even Oprah can approve of, here's your chance.

A ridiculous, over-the-top mess, not to mention a rip-off of "What Lies Beneath", with an infinitely weaker central performance than Michelle Pfieffer's in that other movie, by Halle Berry. Just a stupid waste of time.

Scary stuff happens for no reason other than to scare you. "Twist" ending feels so forced and tacked on it's almost laughable. Actually, it's just straight up laughable.

Halle Berry in Monster's Ball was so good, that one may watch this movie just because her. Can't say that movie is done badly but the main thing to see is the performance of the cast. Screenplay from Gutierrez is the weak spot.

You can get glimpses of Kassovitz' directional flair behind the Hollywood trash. It's otherwise a very generic product.

Sort of reminds me of Verbinski's take on 'The Ring'. It's agressively blue, features near-constant rain, and has a cinematographer and cast who massively outclass the braindead rock that wrote the script. Definitely on the more watchable side of early 2000s horror.

Well made thriller with good tension filled scenes and pretty good effects. The actors all do the best they can with the weakest part of the film, the script. The weak script makes it tough to connect and makes it ultimately forgettable.

I don't question Halle Berry's skills, but they could at least do something so she won't look like her usual self; I couldn't concentrate. The idea of thinking with the "heart" instead of a brain is interesting, but what's even more interesting is discovering, piece by piece, missing pieces of information of what the hell happened.Tension is built very carefully - a plus. I also like the role of her former patient in this mess and psychological aspects. All in all, a decent piece of cinematography.

Gothika is a thriller without purpose, point or redemption. It wanted to be taken seriously, and it's really hard to stop yourself from laughing at it throughout its running time. I couldn't hold back the laughs. It wasn't scary, thrilling or suspenseful, and you'll be well advised to stay away from it. It's such a drab and boring film that it's not even worth talking about for any longer. So, yeah, just don't watch it, and you'll be happier for it. Probably.

One of two films that I've walked out of the cinema of. Even with worse films like "Paranormal Activity 2", my interest for the series and the finale made me sit through it. With "Gothika", I was so restless and downright bored that I couldn't sit through another minute. I've heard good things since, but I have no desire to give it another chance.

My friend convinced me to watch this with him and if that wasn't enough torture he preceded to play Limp Bizkit's cover of The Who's 'Behind Blue Eyes' music video that was a special feature on the DVD. I proceeded to punch my so called friend in the face. I regret nothing.

Not a bad movie but not a classic either. The first act is a bit crappy but it does pick up
The B movie ending is obviously trying to set up a franchise of some kind. Makes me think that this might have been a TV pilot that got too big for its boots. Should have kept the smaller boots, although TV is littered with shows like this now...

Not as bad as you might have been led to believe. I expected very little (being a non-fan of Berry), and was surprised with a decent little thriller. Cruz is pretty solid here, as is the guy who plays Drew Carey's brother. Berry is bad, but not as horrible as she usually is.

It's not terrible, but it's not good, either. It requires too much disbelief to believe that Miranda would be placed in an asylum and not in prison, and that kind of makes the majority of the movie a bit awkward.
