While Cusack delivers brilliantly as he always seems to do, his character was almost to unlikable to enjoy, and while the movie had its heart wrenching moments, it was just a downer to watch a film lead to a climax that the viewer knew was going to be ultimately depressing the entire time. It was like watching a film with a rain cloud over head for 90 minutes just waiting for it to pour down on you.

A film without major elements, but worth the proper interpretation of the main trio, that make a touching story.

A tender story about a father (John Cusack) trying to connect with his two charming young daughters after learning his wife was killed in combat. He takes them for a long road trip, to an amusement park, while he works out how and when to tell them their mother is dead. The pace is very slow and it takes most of the movie to get to the emotional heartbreaking ending that you know is coming. Good performances but a sad and difficult subject.

I wanted to like this more than I could. Ultimately, I just found it to be dull and uninteresting...

W4E1P1S2V1M1A2R3. Realized when reviewing "Lady Bird" that this movie was an early entrant in the "simple stories told really well" category of movies. Boring on a second watch and simple, but on the first watch nothing felt wasted or unnecessary.

This is a good drama with a great performance by John Cusack. It is a sad story that seems very authentic. The story is straightforward with not a lot of plot.

Sweet and sad. The reason for the relatively low ranking is simply that the movie doesn't take you anywhere; nothing is really uplifting, and the message that time and love can help one to cope with loss isn't really all that profound.

The girls are cute, but it's Cusack that keeps it afloat. - Okay

Since I'm not a big John Cusack fan, and since I hadn't heard much about Grace is Gone, I was reluctant to rent this movie. I was surprised to find myself rivetted throughout its viewing. Cusack delivers a powerful performance as a man on the brink of a mental breakdown whom must figure out a way to tell his two little girls that their mother (his wife) has been killed in Iraq. The storyline is simple; the script is tight. And, the young actresses portraying Cusack's daughters are charming.

Really nothing special. They didn't even have the DMB song in here. It tried to hit on a sensitive subject (the war) but should have focused more on having a believable plot. This guy sure did a whole lot of driving on barely any rest.

A fine Cusack performance, a noble subject, but there just isn't much here.
