Hey this was pretty good! It isn’t free of your usual sports movie tropes and it’s somewhat predictable, but there’s just enough heart (and a surprising amount of emotional depth at times) that I was unbothered by the more generic side of the plot. It is a bit long and I’m sure many will think it’s either half-baked or generic, but it’s really well made and genuinely exciting, even intense at times. The production was super tight and the acting was quite good. Inspiring and recommended!
Class film, starts shakily but becomes insanely immersive out of nowhere gripping you till the end, its emotional, relatable, funny and well done. Wish there was more of the minds eye stuff as it was incredle
Like most sports movies, Gran Turismo is by the books in terms of structure and beats. However, Blomkamp’s esthetic is very grainy and visceral, which really does propel its racing sequences to a very fun intensity. David Harbour’s performance is a home run, and his dialogue/chemistry with Madekwe, especially during the racing sequences, was so fun. Blomkamp also does well to throw little visual flairs and nods to the games itself are nice to see it play into it roots unlike most adaptions. Fun.
I thought this was flipping awesome. Intense. Fun. Emotional. I'd watch again. Yes, it was a little thin in the beginning but I attribute it to trying to get to the actual racing later.
I like games. I don't care for GT or racing in general, unless it's kart racing. So while I want to love all video game movies, I really didn't care. Sure, it's a cool story. Gamers rise up and all that jazz. But it's a generic movie. There are a couple cool moments (an interaction later on with his father, the usage of "Harder Than You Think" by Public Enemy), but there's not enough. It looks good, it's acted well, but I just didn't enjoy it.
