Gravy

Gross-out horror/comedy never manages to find balance, so for the first two acts it's neither particularly funny (not helped by arch, overstated performances) or particularly scary (despite some graphic gore effects). Finally finds its voice in the third act, which is a pretty perfect mix of humour and grisliness, though the nihilistic denouement has been done before, and the epilogue feels extraneous and unnecessary.

Gravy is a disappointing attempt at a dark comedy. The script is poor, with the exception of the scene where the captured staff rationalise the villians' behaviour. Simpson and Weston are enjoyable to watch, while Cole is atrocious. The soundtrack is decent but pulls attention from the action on-screen; one of many symptoms of bad editing and mediocre directing. Their is little in the way of wit, with slapstick and gore-shock being the humour of choice.

A comedy should make you laugh. This didn't. I gave it 31 minutes, I feel that's long enough
