I like this subgenre of mumblecore that is basically a fuck you to their male counterparts

It remains to be seen for how long unflinching close-ups of Kate Lyn Sheil's face will continue to qualify as Instant Cinema, but we may as well enjoy it while we can (see also Perry, Swanberg). At the very least Takal knows how to make the most of her lead, even if she possesses a novice's uncertain sense of tone or aesthetics. It feels constantly on the verge of devolving into a mediocre mumblecore "thriller", but fortunately there are enough riveting dramatic scenes to balance things out.
