Intrigued by the latest batch of footage for the live-action movie, I gave this a look to get an idea of Green Lantern -- to learn what he's all about. This film rushes through what should be key moments (like Abin Sur / the origin), and as a result I never came to care much for Hal Jordan as a character. Still, the concept is interesting enough, even if the characters fall a bit flat. Fleshed out over a full feature, this could be a great story. This telling, strong action aside, is just okay.

Stunning animation, great direction and the voices are all top quality. The story is fun and satisfying. I wish they could have done a series instead of a one-shot film, as people who aren't familiar with the characters may not get a chance to get invested in them. A really fun film, all the same. This may be my favorite interpretation of Sinestro.

Timm and company have opted for a very anime-esque look for the space-faring adventures of the Corps, and I thought it fit perfectly. The action scenes are dynamic, exciting, and non-stop, but end up hurting the movie as a whole as it left no room for other things. It's bad when the villain of the film gets more character development than the hero. It's a great primer for those with a short attention span and not familiar with GL, but the current run of comics by Johns is much more rewarding.

Good first half but kind of a let down when it ultimately just comes down to a lot of punching.

Green Lantern: First Flight cuts through its origin, establishes the character quickly, and gets right on with the story. This decision may or may not work depending on the viewer, but it's a decent animated film even if it's not entirely memorable.

I'm usually not one to get upset about something not following the book closely enough. Movies are movies. Books are books. In this case, comics are comics. My problem lies in the lack of depth in "Green Lantern: First Flight"; a depth seen throughout the comic book series. You're given the surface of each character, in order to have them have a gigantic space battle, followed by another and another. The problem with this strategy is, if they all imploded and died, I would care just the same.

Another solid, entertaining DC animated film. A little too much time is spent on the final battle, but I will forgive it for being over the top in all the best ways.

Top badass moment? The always a bit annoying Hal Jordan gets turned into a Green Lantern by an alien and then everything around him explodes; and all he can say is “What the Hell?” If ever it was time for a profanity that was probably it. Unveiling a new range of unisex rings, the Green Lantern Jewellery Co. launch goes a bit wrong when star model Sinestro starts glowing yellow after eating a breakfast of gone bad Ready Brek. This pisses him off a lot... No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

It's more than passable entertainment. Some of the voicework is a bit iffy and the rushed backstory does it no favours I guess.

Christopher Meloni is a terrible Hal Jordan. His lines feel garbled and it really brings down what could have been a great origin film. Victor Garber is excellent as Sinestro though. Really my only hold up is without subtitles I had no idea what Green Lantern was saying

Despite being rich in animation and imagination, First Flight is way too top-heavy. It carelessly skips over the origin story in favor of showing the grandeurs of space instead, and not give Hal Jordan enough attention to work as a character and not just a forced superhero who we are supposed to cheer for. The story itself though, is pretty tight even though the characters are never much thicker than cardboard; except for Sinestro. Maybe that was intentional? Either way, solid if unspectacular.

It's sad when the animated movie to get people pumped about a live action film is better than the live action film. First Flight was in my mind a homerun for animation and comic book-based film! It's only major weakness is that Hal Jordan is painfully underdeveloped, but the rest of the characters, plot, animation, and the lore behind the Green Lantern is flushed out so well that it makes up for it.
