A young Venezuelan idealist flees his native land to escape a revolution. Hoping to find peace, he goes to the mountains and the forests of the Amazon. Anyone expecting to find a tale of the predecessor to jungle women like Sheena is likely to find Hepburn seriously miscast. By the 3rd act however it starts to become clear she's not. She isn't written as a female Tarzan but as a noble savage type - an innocent Eve in a garden of Eden spoiled by outsiders. Despite a soporific middle it mostly works for what it is. The cinematography is stunning & the little action is decent w/ tribesmen engaging in implausible but interesting tests of endurance
