The last 30 mins delivers some suspense as opportunities for escape are shut down (mostly bc the protagonist becomes 1 of those eye-rollingly dopey & ineffectual females in slasher films) & there's even a clever rescue but it all comes far too late. Everything before that is a dull & dumb slog with the score working overtime to try & convince us to be scared of the fragile-looking Huppert & Moretz preposterously re-engaging with her & failing to fight back against the much smaller woman.

This movie begins with an intriguing premise and convincingly ramps up from drama to suspense to thriller to horror. Unfortunately, at some point the writers seem to lose their way, and all choices and consequences start to be completely incomprehensible. It's almost like they wrote the ending they wanted first, then went back and wrote the beginning. Once they realized the two didn't connect at all, they said "Screw it" and just threw it together. A disappointing conclusion to a fun ride.

Chloë Grace Moretz had less trouble evicting Tom and Jerry than she does evading the presence of Isabelle Huppert in one of the biggest cities in the world. Even though it doesn't really work, I still find this to be a missed opportunity to work Father Figure into the soundtrack.

Starts as tame high-gloss middlebrow suspense before ramping up into pleasingly over-the-top camp hysteria. There's real lurid fun in the back half, but the rushed pacing (a too-early, unmotivated "reveal" shot is dropped in apropos of nothing to let impatient viewers know that, yes, Greta is a psycho) and clumsily ominous music cues of the early stretch are a real liability. A minor slice of stylish, DePalma-esque trash.

This had the makings of a wild ride. It's more of a tepid affair.

Awful. Hilarious. Hilariously awful. I haven't laughed so hard in a long while as I did during the phone-image-taking-chase sequence. Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. I understand this is all a throwback to camp thrillers of a DePalma-esque kind, complete with only the most canted of angles, but it's still pretty awful.

Jordan: "so thats the premise, Chloë, like it?". Chloë: "Well Neil, I love the set-up; nice and gentle, sounds like it will be beautifully shot, you have recruited some real talent, but you seem to completely lose the plot in the 3rd act". Jordan: "How so?" Chloë: "Well, having been Kick-Ass, I would have smashed her head in with the rolling pin, or at least tied her up, and it would have been all over. I certainly wouldn't have gone down the cellar or used a triangular shape to lock the box!

Huppert as an Hungarian crazy nurse turned into a stalker who hunts young girls through "forgotten" purses in the sub? We need this to become a franchise. A bit obvious, sometimes, but in a way it connects all the dots we expect it to deliver, creating a nice atmosphere. Some scenes here are just awesome -- Maika being followed (rs), the finale, the faux dream sequence. Generic but good generic. Who needs a mom when you've got Maika as your bff, huh?

Top badass moment? Sweet little Frances accidentally drops a glass of white wine and the guy it splashes acts as if she’s thrown acid at him. Seriously dude it’s just wine, you’ll survive. Do-gooder and recently retired superhero Frances, inadvertently volunteers to help trial a new self-help therapy for loneliness and winds up with psycho killer Greta. Next time just nick the money from the bag and go out with mates instead, it's so much less hassle. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Exactly 0% of this film is new or even updated material, but its completely in on the joke and Isabelle Huppert is back to being a psycho killer. A small, forgettable pleasure.

A fun thriller that allows Isabelle Huppert to go fully crazy with her performance.

Hmmm. What a bizarre film. It's a fantastic premise for a story, but unfortunately it just goes absurdly too far, which is disappointing. Jordan creates a unique and riveting character with so much potential only to kill her off in the second half with cliches and bad campy writing. Granted, the camp is intentional, and works pretty well in the first half, it simply becomes too much. Huppert and Moretz are both great and give the film some much needed help.

Huppert makes such a great lonely psycho. A fun one for sure.

Wish it were a bit better. But I still liked the "hey young girl! don't try to be nice to old people, don't just get stuck with the ghosts of parents past, just listen to your friend inviting you to a party, that's how you're gonna survive!" life lesson. And it had more than a few fun moments.

It would work better if Greta had been portrayed more intimidating. Having an older female antagonist is no excuse, especially after Don’t Breathe. Nonetheless, this is a rather emotional thriller with proper character arc. I just wish they dealt with Greta’s state of mind more diligently so that the audience would empathize with her at least to some extent towards the end, rather than seeing her as an ordinary psycho. Sadly, they’ve missed the chance of making a masterpiece by a narrow margin.

Decent thriller. Characters are very realistic, not perfect, but definitely able to connect with the viewer. Story drags a little toward the end. Not a bad movie for a night in.

Harika bir psikolojik gerilim. Çantasını metroda unutan Greta, Frances kızımız bulup evine götürüyor. Sonra Greta, bildiğiniz takıntılı sapık çıkıp, Frances'in hayatını karartır. Isabelle Huppert'in oyunculuk dersi verdiği bir film.

If you've been watching thrillers, you'll find little here that you haven't seen before (it's a bit of a throwback, actually). Still, it's very well made, and Isabelle Huppert fans will appreciate her performance.

Greta really has fun with the audience in this psycho-thriller. Doesn't attempt to become overly serious, suiting the characters and storyline. A few plot holes that are harmless, but nonetheless a great time in the theater.

While clearly not intended to be taken straight, it's also oddly witless in its reliance on numerous narrative idiocies. Pretty puzzled by claims that it "has fun with the audience". It can't even come up with a joke for why these two young women have a landline
