Lemmon and Matthau could read the phone book on camera and it would be hilarious.

I have trouble assigning this a ranking. I've seen it so many times, and enjoyed it each time.

One of the best comedies of the 90s, featuring a geriatric reunion of a classic comedy team.

About this good, Grumpy Old Men is entertaining for it's leads who obviously have a history in making films with one another and with each other. The first half is all laughs and the second is the resonating message hidden behind the big brick wall. Good watch. Burgess Meredith was my favorite part of the whole movie.

If you can get past the ridiculousness and repetition and focus on Matthau and Lemmon you will have an alright time.

jack lemmon proves that even in his old age he is in the top of his field (worthy of earning a doctorate) in acting. the only thing dissapointing is that he could not make a third movie for this wonderful chapter of a great american story (my living nearby not withstanding)

Quite funny comedy. It's a simple story, with nothing really stand-out other than the acting, it is very enjoyable to watch. Lemmon and Matthau are awesome.

I love this movie. It has excellent comedy, but you can't forget the drama as the drama was well played out as well. The entire cast had a great chemistry and a good warmth to them. Burgess Meredtih really stole the show with his foul language and sexual innuendos. A modern classic with classic actors and actresses involved.

Lemmon and Matthau still work well together in their later years. Shame the material itself isn't of the best quality, Still not a bad watch.

This was a funny and entertaining film that really delivered on it's premise. While the outright jokes aren't that original and funny it's how Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon bring there characters to life and make them feel like real people that made this a really enjoyable comedy.Without these two this would probably have been a by the numbers comedy.

This is another example of a great team effort by Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. They work really well together. The ending is a little bit to nice in this film. Otherwise this is a fun comedy with a good main and supporting cast.

Unquestionably silly, but I don't care: this is a feel-good picture, packed with great lines and quotable insults. One to file with the (good) Vacation movies as unfuckwithable.

Old people don't give a shit about what you think of them or how they live their lives. Old people are without vanity and pretentiousness that is often the shadow of youth. This philosophy shines in this movie. Funny, funny flick.

I enjoyed the bickering between the men and even the juvenile pranks. It was charming. Unfortunately Ann-Margret's age difference and her plot convenience really made the romance unbelievable...is it possible to be a manic pixie middle aged woman? Finally, the ending feels a bit rushed and forced.

There was only one odd couple. No, wait, there were two, the movie and the sitcom. No, I think there was a Broadway play, too. But that was it. no grumpy old crap.

One of the classics in comedy! Nothing better than two old men bickering over a woman. Walter Mathau and Jack Lemmon make a great team, and even managed to make a pretty solid sequal. And nobody has ever been as funny as Meredith Burgess in this one... Amazing casting!

Suprisingly funny, but not the anywhere near the funniest movie I've ever seen. There is excellent chemistry between all the main characters, but that alone does not a classic make.

Burgess Meredith totally makes this. "Chuck's gonna ride the baloney pony!" So-so comedy about old men arguing over a woman that's illuminated by the golden one-liners from Meredith. I dunno, my parents love it, so maybe it's really meant for an older crowd.

Although rather cute and funny in spots, the only real reason to see this is the outtakes over the final credits with Burgess Meredith trying out different lines: "Looks like Chuck's taking the old log to the beaver! Looks like Chuck's gonna bury his boner! Looks like Chuck's taking the skin boat to tuna town! Looks like Chuck's taking a ride on the wild baloney pony!"

Didn't know it was a Christmas movie. Back in the day when Mom and Pop shops were still a thing. Nostalgia inducing. Wish real life had equally fairy-tale endings. But I have a reached stage now where moving this hardened heart takes a lot more than that; am I still alive? :)

Isn't it a little insulting that anytime an elderly person shows energy, passion, or uses crude language it's an automatic comedy?

Very impressive for a comedy centered around elderly people to be enjoyable to a 10 year old like I was when I first saw it. Nearly 20 years later I would finally see The Odd Couple and think it wasn't very good. At least I still have the old grumps!

This score is entirely on how fun it is to watch Matthau and Lemmon together. And Meredith's one liners. And the quaint Minnesota winter setting. And Chuck (Ossie Davis.) I guess it has a few things going for it.

Burgess Meredith is great and there are a handful of good moments with the two leads but it is start-and-stop with the comedy and the romance subplot is a complete bore.

The charms of its two venerable leads are unmatched this time around. With their best pairing since the Odd Couple. The story is easy going and enjoyable. If nothing else keeps your attention, every single moment with Burgess Meredith will.

Lemmon and Matthau have good chemistry, but the titular schtick gets, well, old pretty quickly, and kind of weird when it gets intense and you're not sure if you should laugh or not (see Max going crazy at the ice fishing spot). Meanwhile, the romance plot is silly (Ann-Margret overacts) and the ending is terrible (where's the comedy in her actually choosing one of them? And how was the other just A-okay with it?). Also, I've never hated a soundtrack more ("I'm Too Sexy" made it automatic).
