As usual, this tells only the portion of the story where Gulliver is in Lilliput. But it is enjoyable enough.

The animation style and sight gags are the best part, lending an interesting surrealism to the film. But otherwise it's is a huge waste, of both the talented animators and the rich source material. The story just isn't very good or particularly well developed, the characters are thin delivery vehicles for mediocre humour and Gulliver is just a giant Deus Ex Machina for their story. It plods along with little of consequence happening and then a rushed climax wraps everything up.

Kind of cute, if oversimplified. There's something about this era in cartoons that has disappeared. Some of the sight gags are wonderfully subtle things, and it's generally attractively animated in a sort of Disney style.

Entirely creditable first animated feature from the Fleishers with a great ending; but it doesn't measure up to the competition.

I loved this as a child and I still do.

Perhaps this was to be expected, but all the politics and satire have been drained from this telling, leaving pretty much just a series of sight gags about being an extremely large or extremely small person.

It's a shame that when the Fleischer brothers finally made a feature film they had to stoop to Disney level to compete. Prim, kitschy, an affront to Swift's literature.

Gulliver's Travels (1939) - The Fleischer Studios finally get to make a feature length cartoon! Where Gulliver's Travels fail is that they try to be too much like Disney. They simply forgot to be themselves with Gulliver. I myself have fond memories of Gulliver's Travels from childhood. Such scenes as the giant strapping, celebration feast, the Gulliver's Thunder Machine and the obvious sweet ending. I love it! And I wanted to love it more, but it's got some clear weaknesses one can't look past.
