Alexander Scheer is really impressive. Great performance. After this movie you may think that communism itself was not bad, but its leaders were mostly shitty.

Fascinating story told in a sometimes haphazard and convoluted way, which dilutes the drama somewhat - has a great feel for time and place (especially the understated oppression of government forces in Germany) and a quietly powerful leading turn from Scheer. One that sticks in the memory and hopefully a revisit will clear up the niggling construction issues.
