Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood's End

Better than the first half of the series. It contained some really awful fillers.

I have yet to watch the second half, but the first half has its ups and downs. Despite this, it establishes lovable characters and a mostly enthralling plot. The animation is interesting and the music tone is spot on. A pretty solid show/movie.

Better paced than the 15 episodes that it sums up, however being that it takes 300 minutes of a show and reduces it to 110 minutes the whole thing also feels rushed and choppy.

A mediocre film that doesn't even live up to the lesser first half of the series.

Summarizes the first half of the show in a satisfactory way, but doesn't bring much else to the table until the final battle. Not enough new animation, and the compression the series removes much of the relationships between many of the characters and dulls a lot of the magic of the show.

The compilation format suits Imaishi's directorial style, condensing much of the best of the first part of Gurren Lagann into a quick and intense action movie.

A good portrayal of the first half of the anime series. If you've seen the anime, it's not a complete rehash of the story. The ending of the film slightly differs from the anime but it fits quite well with the storyline.

A pretty okay summary of the first half of the series, though it rushes a bit through the climax and the conclusion isn't as good as in the series. Can easily be skipped.
