It's a fascinating film in that instead of self-aggrandizing the self-insert it is used for self-psychoanalysis. Yet despite the weirdness of the films framing, Chahine candidly admits to his own flaws as a man but also showing pride in his accomplishments in spite of his anxieties. It's a fascinating celebration of the self, but also considers his legacy breaching on what exactly people value in his own work and what his film means within the conventions of the industry.
