Haeundae

Now this is how you make a really good disaster film. Give me an hour of good characterization and an hour of thrilling destruction and I will be a happy man. Most disaster flicks tend to give you 15 minutes of character introductions then kill everyone aside for the main character and their family.

Too many "main" characters, too much spent on the lead up to what you know is coming. Special effects wildly variable from not too bad to plain awful but you've got to be a bit forgiving as money was probably tight. The real downer for me were the overdone heartstring scenes in the final part - one "gotta act right now" scene went for approx 3 minutes which felt like forever, frustrating. The "after the danger has passed" scenes were pretty far fetched esp after seeing the Japanese tsunami.

Well, it was quite spectacular though.

Boring Drama and then half an hour of Disaster Movie and I did not even see that part.
