This movie always leaves me scratching my head ? So far as reboots go Zombie does a lotta things right ....But then when it comes to present day he's pretty much copying Carpenter's movie kill for kill It's like seriously W/T/F/ ? But I do like Laurie she's not all pretty and looking barely touched ....she looks like she's genuinely been in a battle I also like how they leave ( me anyway) questioning if she's as crazy as Michael

Watching this, I could tell that Rob Zombie had the best intentions in mind. On some front, there might be a salvagable movie in this remake... if it wasn't directed by Zombie. His directing style is so music video-like, filled with choppy cuts and shaky camera work. It can be unbearable at times. The acting is also pretty rough, minus McDowell and the physically imposing Myers actor. Overall, a movie that could be saved, but was doomed from the start.

Rob Zombie easily gives his best directional work with this remake of the horror classic Halloween. The film focuses more towards the causes for the sadistic killer instead of the straight-to-slash characteristics of old. The audience sees just why young Michael Myers turned into the monster he is. The plot is numbingly stale but, the direction is just fresh enough to make you give it a chance.

At the onset of the film, attempting to explain the origin of Michael Myers is a cardinal sin, removing any sort of mystery the character once had and making him less menacing. Instead we are treated to a wretched montage with Nazareth's "Love Hurts", an excess of cameos, and brutal violence. As a result, the film is neither scary nor fun to watch. Simply, a complete and utter waste of time. Watch the original instead.

Rob Zombie's version of "Halloween" is sadly below the franchise's and his standards at their best. The first act showing us Michael's childhood is a welcome addition but it is apparent throughout the film that Zombie can't really bridge the obvious gap between the original's aura and his own personal style, and he is not aided by the messy editing. All in all, not only this "Halloween" doesn't have the atmosphere or tempo of the original, it doesn't even rank as a particularly scary offering.

Zombie's remake of Carpenter's classic is a textbook example of why horror remakes are ultimately redundant and highlights the folly of attempting to delve deeper into the psychology of boogeymen. As others have noted, the backstory lays waste to the mystery, while the second half is a pointless retread of the original. Zombie also demonstrates the blatant inferiority of modern filming methods: his shaky camera isn't a match for Carpenter's spartan style, and his Myers is absurdly strong.

McDowell is great in this. And Rob Zombie really doesn't do a bad job of directing in this remake. But i found that during the duration of the film, many things were repeated. Such as people crawling on the floor, or all the sex. There was so much sex in this movie it was retarded. Every Couple had a sex scene in this movie. Well anyway, it could have been much better. Maybe next time Zombie.

Although it lacks the economy, cohesion and stylistic consistency of the original, this is surprisingly faithful (probably too much so). Minuses include some weak dialogue and performances (just as an example, McDowell is not good, and far below Pleasance), but I was less put off than most (it seems) by the decision to ramp up the harshness of the central character’s childhood milieu and, in the later parts, the sluttishness of the girls. Vastly better than the 2018 film with the same title.

Because everyone wanted to know the origin story of the semi-anonymous antagonist of a low budget horror film from the 70's. The violence sure is ramped up, which is kind of neat, giving us an interpretation of Halloween by someone that watched it religiously in High School, stayed away once his skin cleared up, then was asked to describe the film in his own words as a 40 year old quasi-hipster.

Lacks the charm of the original. Plus, giving Michael Meyers a reason for his behavior removes the blind horror of the character. Stylistic, it has a few things to offer, but it's a huge step back from Zombie's previous work.

It certainly has more of a distinct, flavorful authorial voice behind it than H20 or Resurrection, and it being a remake of the series' cleanest, simplest, best story certainly doesn't hurt. But it spends way too much time expounding on the childhood of Michael Myers, something I never especially cared about - it's kind of Halloween's Phantom Menace in that regard. Also, the last half hour or so is too dark. Literally, I mean: For minutes at a time, the screen is 95% pitch black.

Top badass moment? With a family like that, the only surprise is why it took him so long. Plus his horrible haircut; what on earth was his mother thinking? And let’s not forgot the world’s worst child psychiatrist either, Dr. Loomis, who writes a book about him. What happened to data protection and doctor-patient confidentiality? And after 15 years his preferred treatment plan is to buy a gun?! Poor Michael, the kid had no chance. 1 (dead) cat (in a bag), no chainsaws or decapitations.

A horrible remake. The needless backstory that makes up 1/2 the movie is painful to sit through and does nothing except destroy the concept and mystery of Michael Myers. The second half is pretty much a Cliff Notes version of the original but with all the emphasis on suspense and building horror removed, replaced by excessively long death scenes that revel in the torture and mutilation of its usually naked female victims.

Rob Zombie still has some amazing examples of twisted retro-originality (such as the breakfast table scene), but they are too few in number. He has abandoned that wonderful sloppy, experimental approach that gave his previous two films such distinctiveness and in this film begins to capitalize on everything conventional. It's Zombie entering into the realm of shoddy modern mainstream horror.

Much better than I was expecting, but there still are plenty of flaws to be found here though. The first quarter of the movie explains and undergoes Michael's entire obsession with murder, complete with a commendable origin. Along with this is even short segments showing the viewers his downward spiral into becoming a serial killer. The last half, is mostly saved by Malcolm McDowell's spectacular performance and it winds up being a stale copied slasher. Zombie's best overall.

One of the things I enjoyed about the original was questioning who Michael was as a person. In this movie, everything that creates tension is removed entirely. The entire cast is unlikable, even the lead woman who we are supposed to be relating to. It just went way too over the top, and while I appreciate an ode to the original, it just didn't work well at all. I will give it some props, but overall it just crossed too many boundaries, and not in a good way.

So one day Rob Zombie was thinking to himself: However will I top Devil's Rejects? Oh I know! Everyone else has been doing shitty, redundant remakes of horror movies (that are clones of each other in the first place). Why don't I scavange the leftovers? The only slasher franchise no one else is rebooting is Halloween (probably since it's the lamest). Let's do that, and let's make it more contrived than ever and throw in every possible cliché of the genre just so as to REALLY blend in.

Ok, this movie is an abomination. The scary thing about Mike Myers, in the original Halloween, was that we did not know why he loved to kill. Zombie then wants us to think that his white trash raised Goliath Mikey is much more frightening. Please. The origin story was stupid, and pointless. Not the worst Halloween, but is that saying anything. Stay away and watch the originals, except resurrection, and the crappy sixth.

When it decides to do its own thing, Halloween isn't terrible. I'm not sure making Michael Myers the lead character was a good decision though. The biggest problem is that about halfway through the run time it decides to just remake Carpenter's classic. As a result of the lack of time commitment and some head-scratching decisions with the victims, it quickly becomes dreadful and not in a scary way. It is also clear to me just how much Rob Zombie must loathe teenage girls and their culture.

I don't see how this improved upon anything. I find Myers to be scarier when we don't know what makes him tick. He's evil. Why? Because he JUST IS, and that works for me. I don't want to be manipulated into feeling sorry for him, but that's what Rob does. How does he do it? By using the same stock, rednedck characters that have become his trademark/crutch. Despite the promises of exploring HOW Myers came to be, Zombie skirts the issues and doesn't deliver specifics. The 2nd half is worthless.

I advise people to go watch the original. This movie lost my interest after the neat little backstory. We get to see his first kill, but it doesn't enhance the story in any way or provide any insight to the story, which quite frankly isn't a concern for a slasher film anyway. Original is much better, it doesn't take itself so seriously.

It has the backstory of Michael Myers as a child, and it's trying new things. It features Rob Zombies distorted, retro, grungy-ish, dis-colored style, and it's pretty good. I like the updated Laurie, she seems like a beliveable virgin in today's age, kind of self aware of her prudishness, and poking fun of it. The second half of the movie felt stale though. It seemed too much like a clone of the original's second half, with more useless murder, and a tacked ending to be "new". No subtlety!

There are 2 movies here: 1 is a completely unnecessary remake of the original w/ a tiresome, dragged out climax. The other is an origin which is far more interesting to watch than the first half of most slasher films, including the 1st Halloween. Fans of the original understandably disagree since "evil" is far scarier when there's no explanation for it. Still, I'd rather watch white trash fight than generic suburbans go about their banal lives while I impatiently wait for them to get killed.

If you were ever frustrated by the abstract efficiency of Carpenter’s film then you may get more out of this thuddingly literal remake, which spends too much of its first half giving us the full Myers back-story, in turn robbing much of the unsettling atmosphere required for the second half. While never scary, Zombie does a creditable craftsman job, especially the well-staged kill scenes; McDowell’s amusing performance is a highlight, but he can’t hold a candle to Pleasence’s iconic work.

I just love Zombie's re-make. Since it's come out on home video, I've watched it more times than I've seen the original. While I'm a fan of the original, I always felt something more needed to be done to explore the relationship between Loomis and Michael. This film does just that! I hope John Carpenter's writing credit is only in reference to the original idea, and that Rob Zombie is solely responsible for this mutilation. This is like retarded fanfiction, seeking to erase the mystery of Michael Myers with completely unnecessary exposition revealing his origins. It's not a bad reboot, but it's not awesome, either. It does play more on the horror roots of the story and gives Michael a background that is more believable than the weird Celtic stuff the series got up to somewhere in the past. Why do they make the girls so super annoying in many of the horror movies, though? There was no real reason to care about them and the plot did drag a bit too much in places.

An interesting, and at times quite thrilling, reinterpretation. Whereas Carpenter presented us with a pseudo-mythical shadow stalking behind every door and within every corner, Zombie gives us a hulkish brute willing to chop down every barrier (and every body) in his path. It's not bad, just different. But I understand why some may be put off by Zombie's brand of oppressive sadistic horror when expecting the refined elegance of the horror in Carpenter's original.

Rob giving all the old timers another pay check is appreciated. But everything up to and including the now infamous bagel scene is an insult to its audience and just a compilation of all the worst Hollywood horror has to offer. However once we settle back into Laurie Strode's story it becomes tolerable, and while the suspense sequences simply go for the throat it does it all fairly well. Unfortunately by this point (over 50 minutes in) the audience's good will is all but used up.

Like his attempt ground MM as a real person/thing, but happy H2 dispenses with that. In many ways, this backtracks from REJECTS. I'm not going to say that I prefer this more than the original, because the movies are so differently done, perspective wise. I do like Rob Zombie's directing style though. What I don't like, however, is the way in which Zombie doesn't give his characters any redeeming qualities, which makes it hard to connect with...anyone.
