It's barely even a Halloween movie. Throughout most of its duration, the focus was put on a character we had never even heard of, and everything that happens in the first 2 acts is pretty much inconsequential for the ending. The script was just so incredibly poor and messy, the choices made by the characters were leaning on the ridiculous and, most importantly, it was boring overall. Really, it was just so boring.

"Hey, you know what we need for the epic finale of our meticulously planned trilogy? A brand new main character who's just a discount Arnie Cunningham, a ludicrous love story, a full hour of badly written meta discussion, and Laurie Strode writing a fucking self-help book."

It's like the events of the first 90 minutes- garbage as they are (and my word, is every townsperson a jerk for no reason?)- completely undoes any desire to see the end confrontation that you'd expect from the movies to the point where I'm just unconcerned about the outcome at that stage. How can you mess up a movie this badly that's supposed to be about Laurie Strode finally confronting and dealing with Michael Myers?

This almost (a generous assumption) would have worked if the ending took place at the beginning, and then the rest of the film happened after the time jump. As it was, it just felt tacked on and is completely undercut by the rest of the film. A good script would have also helped but I can't hope for that much.

Even worse than I imagined it could be. It rightfully belongs down there with the duds of the slasher franchise. Conceptually, it had some interesting ideas. The opening scene was really interesting and messed up, but the rest of the movie is a rushed, clunky mess. Gone are the thrills of the better Halloween movies. Gone is the character development for the returning players. The dialogue and motivations made no sense and were even laughably bad. Even the production was trash. Skip it.

It woulda been cool if it would have focused more on being a Halloween movie. Really, it's kind of sweet that one dude has basically spent 40 years trying to kill one woman. But you wouldn't know that here because Green focused so much on some other dude. And you hope that it might come together and form something cool but it doesn't. It just distracts us from the real reason we're here: Myers. The end is fine. But some of the dialogue and decision making is just awful before that.

The camera work was shit. Outside of Jamie Lee Curtis and Will Patton, the acting in this was pretty bad. I was surprised that they went the YA Emo route with the story, The Twilight version of Halloween. The ending was stupid and pathetic. Unfortunately, this film now takes the worst film in the franchise award.

Never thought I’d live to see Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 supplanted as the weirdest Halloween movie. Wild watching this trilogy go in a few years from “back to basics” reboot to demonic possession shit. Hard to get all that hyped about Laurie nutting up and facing down Michael in a climactic final battle when we saw that a quarter-fuck-century ago in H20. Overall I don’t really know how anyone could argue this DGG trilogy really holds together as one three-part story.

It introduces a subplot that takes away from the main narrative and pushes it aside for the better part of the runtime. Most of the decision making in this movie makes zero sense and leaves you scratching your head about how it came to be in the first place. This truly does not feel like a Halloween film apart from the final 25 minutes of the movie. It was just odd all around.

The first half veered far away from formula which definitely hooked me. I wondered what Green was going for, but as things took a more supernatural turn the message (society creates monsters; revenge leads to evil?) was sophomoric, but what should I expect from the slasher genre? I was ready to forgive but it soon becomes clear the first 2/3rds of the story is a red herring; a time filler; a way for the filmmakers to avoid repeating themselves since they shot their load too early w/ the first 2.

I liked the opening and the showdown. The rest ranges from decent to plain stupid. They took Allyson, who I liked in the previous two films, and made her almost insufferable by the end. It feels like a mashup of Freddy’s Revenge and Twilight for most of its runtime. It does nothing to justify having two films after 2018. If one were to watch one of the timelines, I’d recommend 1 > 2 > H20, or 1 > 2018. You could even check out 3 &/or 4 instead of this unnecessary conclusion.

Did it, though? Did it really come to a spine-chilling climax? Y'know I re-read my "Halloween Kills" review and ask, "how did they manage to wring most of the few good things about THAT movie, OUT of this one?" I don't care about this "young man has problems, becomes serial killer" archetype, and I don't particularly care about this Halloween movie that ISN'T about Michael Myers. Like the last one, it has some ideas but it just wants to express them, not explore them. Kill quality dropped, too.

Sadly so disjointed. I don't mind yet again this trope of a city haunted by trauma and blaming the victims -- the Laurie's family -- and provoking tragedy after tragedy. But everything seems so bland and fragile -- why is Laurie writing a book on trauma? come on --, even the 'new' The Shape -- his arc starts promising and then derails big time.

Laurie Strode finally gets justice. It's finally over. Michael Myers is done. Definitively done. And nobody is talking about that, because the rest of the movie is such pure garbage. This isn't just a botched production, this is a dumpster fire of a whole new level. And it makes this entire trilogy look really bad with just how bad it is. Honestly, just let this franchise die now. Please. Let Laurie live in peace, and let Jamie Lee Curtis do other shit.

How are you so bereft of ideas you introduce a new main character who is totally forgettable, but Laurie writing a wellness book is somehow even shittier? I just went and adjusted Zombie's Halloween II by 1 point so this ranks worse.

I enjoyed this a lot more than the last, it's silly and requires big jumps of logic and suspension of disbelief but it felt like a good old fashioned b-movie from the 80's which I think is what it was going for. The Laurie Strode character has changed so much from the last film they barely seem like the same person but it kinda works, especially when we start seeing her use her strength again. I think the theme of violence begetting more violence is played better this time around than in kills.

The big scene, and the kills leading up to it, are executed with the same flair and technical polish as Halloween Ends’ two immediate predecessors, which might be all that’s left to do with these characters, this setting, and that famous mask. Maybe that’s enough, but it’s hard not to wish for more.

Halloween Ends is messy, and I feel like I have to look at in 2 different ways. I think this would be a very interesting start to a new trilogy. It’s very character driven, and it has all the bullet points of an interesting setup. However, this is a finale in an established narrative which is suppose to be a send off to an important character…which it does not lend itself to at all. It feels out of touch, and it is. This is a confused movie, and not a good one, but I still like it.

Finally, Green decides to do something interesting with this series (by basically doing the Jason V thing for Halloween). Themes of recursive trauma, cycles of violence, and I appreciate the nonliteral way they introduce Myers into the narrative early on. And then it gives up in the last act in the most boring way.

Kinda dumb and messy, but ultimately a lot more interesting than the franchise has been in a while. While it lacks the slashy fun of 2018, it goes on a sharp, out-there angle that will no doubt anger many people given the advertising and place this film has as the conclusion of a trilogy. This movie's biggest flaw (mostly) isn't the actual movie content itself - it's that it really has no idea what to do with one of the most iconic horror villains when the structure/placement says it has to.

I don’t think this is a particularly good movie, but it’s certainly better than whatever Green was going for in Kills. A very cool, tense opening kind of tricks you into thinking this might be a different movie. Ends up being like a Charmed episode (not a complaint from me since I grew up on that trash) more than anything. Had high hopes for the DGG trilogy and it just kind of puttered around and when it tried to take the big, brutal swings it mostly just missed. Sebadoh on the soundtrack.

Poor conclusion to a pointless, ill conceived 'reboot' that has the nerve to act like a legitimate heir to King Carpenter's throne. Seems disconnected from the previous two entries, which merely confirms the lack of 'vision' behind it, and the 'contagion of evil' via trauma theme is both badly done and not even a new idea in this franchise. The 'final' battle between Strode and Myers is a non-event, and the references to the 1978 film merely highlight the creative poverty on full display,

What a truly terrible film. Yes, I probably should have expected it, but I somehow thought the finale of the trilogy could bring it back to life. Well, it did the opposite. It spent most of its runtime making sure that everyone realizes this should never have been a trilogy to begin with. Then you get a few scenes that connect to the previous movies, but at that point it feels just pointless. The only good thing about this movie is that it takes a big swing and tries something new. And fails.

One feels that the writers have become so preoccupied with questions about “what should happen to these characters” that the story has turned into a melodrama or soap opera, forgetting that its origin is not just in a horror movie, but in a premise about a singleminded killer stripped of almost any shred of character or development. The result is a set of strange decisions, confusions and uncertainties leaving the impression that what has been viewed is only the simulacrum of a movie.

Slasher genre fans are interesting. They complain if the same film is released over and over again, but they also complain whenever the genre tries to reinvent itself. This hardly focused on Michael Myers and it was the better for it. Instead, we got an actually different story that neatly slotted into the predecessors, loaded with well-placed symbolism and satisfying recalls. I dug this a fair amount and it’s kinda baffling that fans didn’t.

There’s a deliberate provocation with halloween 3 title credits to start the movie and it lays the crumbs of motive. Where this isn’t a movie about MICHAEL(until a rather trite fight sequence) and it’s nowhere near a slasher it’s more place beyond the pines but more about how Michael is everywhere in Haddonfield. He’s in jokes, in the walls and he’s literally in the bowels of the town. An evil is always lurking. In the end he’s limply killed and made to dust. A town cleansed. A ghost no more

This entry seemed more focused on characters and consequences rather than just deaths. Very different from the previous two movies. It doesn’t focus on loads of kills and I could see that being divisive with people being disappointed on the lack of Michael Myers and deaths. This time it focuses on a new character that ends up being tied to everything with how people end up turning evil on how they are treated. There’s also a good conclusion to the Michael Myers stuff, albeit rushed but decent.

I actually enjoyed 'Kills' so had hope for this but the baffling decision to sideline and nerf Michael for most of the runtime totally killed all the momentum and potential for the anticipated Michael v Laurie ultimate showdown. The climax is decent but too little too late and overall this is not how fans of the franchise will have wanted Halloween to End.

Nonsensical script. I don't even care that they decided to go a weird way with it but the love story is horrible, the acting is over the top and the logic of the plot (I know who cares it's a slasher movie) just makes it so I couldn't do anything but laugh.

I'm going to spoil this for you: this is not a Michael Myers movie. It's a failed attempt at a spin-off that shoehorned Mike in because Studio Execs were too scared to let the director do something new and interesting with the series. The final 15 minutes are clearly tacked on and ruins the entire thing for me. Cut that, and it becomes a little more tolerable.

Uhhh ... ??? Halloween via Twin Peaks, Ends feels like at least three seasons of a TV adaptation all stuffed into one movie. There are good ideas drawn in the broadest of strokes but there's simply not nearly enough runtime to tell the story that the writers wanted to tell. I love the idea of people creating their own monsters but I wish it were in a better Halloween movie. This is a compelling failure.

Best of the Green bunch. Yup. It sure fails as a series ender. It fails if you're looking for dozens of "bad ass" Myers kills (as if this is what made the first one so special). It's too much of a left turn too late in the game. And YET...it had style and was the only tonally consistent movie of the three. GREAT opening sequence, too. Maybe the best sequence in the series. I wish this was the FIRST of the Green movies not the last. Respect the big swing even if it didn't totally connect.

The fact that this spends a significant portion of its runtime on a brand new character is pretty odd. I spite of that, I liked this quite a bit more than Kills due to it scaling down and being something a lot smaller. The town of Haddonfield continues to be filled with complete assholes.

I enjoyed the other 2 movies prior to this one for different reasons, I even liked Halloween Kills in spite of some of the more over the top and ridiculous shit that happens in it. This one though? hard to defend, it doesn't seem connected to the previous movie much at all, a bunch of new characters are introduced and a lot of it seems very rushed and unengaging. A very disappointing and anticlimactic end to a franchise that feels very self important. Not sure who wanted this at all.
