While watching the original Halloween I just couldn't stop rolling my eyes. Where is LL Cool J ??? H20 delivers. Every other scene contains a jump scare or someone who's career hasn't started or is dying.

Unlike the 2018 sequel this one not only has a lighter approach (the scenes w/ Janet Leigh are great winking fun) but it also acknowledges the sibling mythos & Myers' indestructible nature. This may make it feel more slight or cartoonish, but the heart of the story (Laurie grappling w/ the trauma & having to confront Myers) is just as gripping. The script is also tighter (less contrivances & less screen time devoted to characters who serve as fodder) & builds to a fantastic truly bad-ss climax.

Before I took my trip to the local video store, "Couch Potatoes" to rent the entire Halloween series to binge watch, my mother, so she didn't have to find a babysitter, took a 7-year-old me to see the new "Halloween" reboot-sequel in theaters. So despite this being post-"Scream"(1996), generic 90's slasher, full of "WB" teens, jump scares, and LL Cool J, ultimately the film, elevated by Jamie Lee Curtis, genre veteran Steve Miner, and the final act, makes for a fun nostalgic 90's slasher for me.

This, 'Jason X' and the remake of 'Friday the 13th' form a triptych of mostly hated-upon post-'Scream' slasher flicks that I enjoy (even upon rewatches). Just thinking about the very end of the film gives me an urge to stand up and give a loud round of applause.

Not a complete waste, and very much in keeping with the original (unlike many of the intermediate sequels). But its operating in a post-Scream world where the slasher flick has been thoroughly done to death and deconstructed. If this had been a final end to an iconic series it would have scored higher. But sadly I know what's coming next...

I know this is not saying much, but it's my 2nd favorite Halloween movie. Most satisfying ending of all time? I don't know if I'd go that far but it's in the conversation. Halloween, Halloween II and H20 make for a nice trilogy. If you HAVE to continue the story that was concluded wonderfully in '78, this is the only way to do it. Forget everything else.

Though the events in H20 seem to not take into account the happenings of the last 3 films, perhaps that is what the series needed, as this installment breathes new life into the story. I could have done without LL Cool J, but no film is really perfect, I suppose.

The whole idea of a resumption is so tiresome beforehand that the thing could easily be ignored if not for some idle curiosity over the return of Curtis. But hasn't she been through enough already? Hasn't she earned the chance to show whether she can play an ordinary human being with ordinary problems? The scene in which she passes up an opportunity to escape by car in order to face the monster one-on-one, axe-against-knife, suggests she is resigned to being Queen of the Amazons.

While I'm glad it kind of ret-conned the previous sequels of the Halloween series, which eventually turned into a gigantically stupid horror series, it doesn't actually introduce anything new or impressive to fill in what it replaced. I'd say it was highly disappointing but then I'd be expecting something impressive.

In the Halloween pantheon, H20 (like water, get it? Because I don't...) pretty much falls squarely under "doesn't suck." Jamie Lee reprises her role as Michael Meyers's sister...who I thought was supposed to be Michael Meyers, but actually isn't, but still could be him if you close your eyes, stomp your feet, and say LALALALALA really loud whenever anyone suggests otherwise. Poor-man's Liam Hemsworth--a.k.a Josh Hartnett--proves that we don't need to be Liam Hemsworth to get us some slasher sex.

Definitely on the lower tier of Halloween films, but the last one was definitely worse. It sucks to see Jamie Lee Curtis come back at a time like this, but overall, it's not bad. Actually Mike Myers actually feels really threatening and creepy in this one, and it actually can be pretty suspenseful. Not the worst of the worst.

Yes, the first hour is a pretty listless Scream knockoff that mostly manages to seem like a decent film solely because of Jamie Lee's gravitas. But smack at the 60 minute mark, this does the impossible and bootstraps itself into a Halloween movie done right - for the first time in 17 years. A fitting end to the franchise. (Yeah right.)

My main memory of this is that JLC's boyfriend, not Michael Myers, is responsible for all the jumpscares in the film. Also it's not good, but the fact that H20 is sandwiched between the worst films in the franchise gives it a bit of a glow for fans who were starved of a decent Halloween film between 1988 and 2018 (for most people).

Thanks steve miner! from 80's friday the 13th to this..! A great re invention of the Halloween, suited for the nineties. Part 6 really still had that 80's feel to it, tho made in the mid nineties. This they tried to make it look more like "scream" and "i know what you did last summer"" , and what we get is a entertaining teen slasher. Unfortunately, the sequel was quite the stinker.

Jaime Lee Curtis saves an otherwise generic 90s slasher (complete with cheap, made-for-tv aesthetics, unimaginative kills and lazy, post-Scream pop culture references). She's genuinely fucking awesome here. When it descends into a grueling "Laurie VS Michael" battle, the film really comes alive.

The signature grungy Halloween flavor has been drained in favor of a more slick, polished and generic late-90s post-Scream horror vibe, though I still find it a lot more watchable than Halloween 5 or 6. Having Jamie Lee back helps, and the final thirty seconds or so are pretty cool. The buildup is very slow, though. And no Loomis is a shame.

As far as Halloween sequels go, H20 is probably above standard, but it suffers from the usual problems that befall slashers such as rote plotting, cheap scares and general stupidity. The premise isn't too bad, all things considering, and Miner keeps it moving with predictable efficiency, but there is no denying how tired it all seems. It would be almost too ironic to claim that the inevitable showdown between Strode and Myers doesn't meet expectations because the film inspires none whatsoever.

The first one since H2 (H4 kind of took a stab at it) that attempts to replicate the suspense of the original rather than just being shocking - to mixed results. There are some missteps, and it's definitely the safest, most mainstream-appeal entry in the series, but it's a step in the right direction for sure, especially since it completely drops the wacky 'lore' 5 and 6 focused on.

After Halloween degenerated, culminating with The Curse of Michael Myers which marked the death of the series, the only way to salvage any of it was to cut some of the fat. H20 ignore every sequel after II, which helps it quite a bit. Jamie Lee Curtis returns for this film and does a good job carrying it. Still, for the most part, the movie is dull and cliche, but what's enjoyable about it is the final act. It's actually pretty satisfying and could have served as a serviceable end to the series.

It's full of padding even at under 90 minutes. Most of the movie is pointless. It's all about the final 20 minutes or so, and that last act is pretty entertaining. It's got a good ending, but they immediately undid it with another cash-grabby sequel, so any potential power in finality is lost. By the way, adding more instruments to John Carpenter's iconic theme song does not make it better

The script is not very inspired, there's too many jump scares and overall "H20" is not as suspenseful or atmospheric as the early films, but it does get a couple of crucial things right, namely: most characters are not idiotic but put their minds to use (and that includes the finale, which was a long time coming); also the stakes were really high regarding Laurie's first appearance and especially her first confrontation with Michael after all these years, and the issue was handled marvelously.

Top badass moment? Laurie Strode (a recovering alcoholic who still seems to drink an awful lot) manages to fake her own death and then sort out all the paperwork to become the head of a posh school. That's pretty amazing, although I admit I've never been pursued by a psychotic serial killer, so I'm guessing that's probably quite a motivator. Still, managing to 'reinvent' herself so effectively is pretty clever and clever is badass. 1 decapitation (one of the classics), no cats or chainsaws.

Problem is, it's now just Halloween re-imagined as a late-90s mainstream horror movie, and loaded with all the cheap sting-based scares, hand-waving direction, and forgettable orchestral music you can expect from the time period. Also, you bring back Laurie Strode to turn her into a bulging-veined action hero? Come on now. Pretty lame movie overall.

I'm at a complete loss as to how I'm supposed to rank "Halloween H20". There are a number of positives that place it above most other entries in the canonically confusing franchise, the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, the Michael we all know and love, all interesting stuff. And yet, for every great aspect, there's at least two mediocre ones. I've seen 7 "Halloween" films and I'll be damned if any of them have been even vaguely memorable aside from the first. Despite Scream screening on TV on Halloween night, it is not self-referential at all, with the expected amount of nostalgia. Strode's trauma is still tormenting her -- and her only son -- as The Shape goes to California to find her, killing of Levitt in Illinois before leaving. Some flashy shots make the case for an attractive, but not fully rewarding reboot -- more a 90s teen slasher than just a really good slasher. LL's aspiring writer is a bliss. Strode chopping MM's head off, too.

Halloween H20 is a perfectly fitting "ending" to a franchise long off the rails. When considered on its own or as a direct follow up to Halloween II, it works perfectly fine. Jamie Lee is wonderful and the climax is a series best. Incorperating emotion in a way the other films couldn't quite hack.

Standard post-SCREAM slasher doesn't know how seriously it wants to take itself, combining a broad remake of Carpenter's original (with Curtis almost doing a Strode-Loomis double duty) with strange, not-quite-spoofy touches (outside of the familial connection, the PSYCHO call-backs feel irrelevant and out of place). Never develops Myers as a genuine threat, making the technically proficient final act dull and rote. Curtis' reliably fine performance is the best thing about it.

Clearly the worst movie of the franchise so far. You have a legendary movie score and you use just regular horror effects, really?? Acting on Michael was the worst. Michael moves slow but confidently, in this movie it was the opposite Michael was making fast moves but never confident. Another thing is if you are in a room with Michael, always he is one step ahead of you, this movie was the opposite. And what was that Laurie, fight with Michael, really? They killed the Loomis's character.
