Hangman's House

A forgotten gem - one of the most captivating silents I've ever seen. Very atmospheric and artistically directed, coupled with an intriguing, romantic story. Takes place in Ireland.

Victor McLaglen is an Irish ex-patriot serving in the French Foreign Legion. He returns to Ireland to settle a matter of family honour. His quest for revenge puts his interests in line with a young couple who want to marry against her father's wishes. A silent drama from John Ford. Nothing very remarkable here ... it's a handsome production and McLaglen is, as always, quite good.

Moody and atmospheric John Ford silent. This film, along with Four Sons, exhibits a greater emphasis on stylized shots and communicating through formal choices in addition to story.

Not bad for a Ford flick, better than most of his "classics"
