A slow and quirky fantasy horror that is strongest in its first half. The film is very atmospheric, well scored and features extremely good acting from all but the youngest. The second half is much weaker and falls prey to Korean melodrama. A great movie with a too drawn out and underwhelming finale.

first half is a masterpiece of creepy suspense. the payoff in the second half is not bad, but evokes more sadness than fear. personally, after such a tense buildup, i was hoping for an avalanche of terror instead of what i got.

This haunting fairy tale slowly progresses from quirky to creepy to heartbreaking, keeping you on your toes through the mysterious journey. Dark and suspenseful, an atmospheric jewel of a film. The three child actors all give extremely strong and convincing performances.

The beginning with the creepy scenes of the forest and the crazy looking interior of the house gave me all the hopes of a wonderful film, but unfortunately, it lost its way. Instead of sticking with that beautifully created creepiness, it instead becomes a little too silly and not as engrossing.
