Hanzo the Razor: Sword of Justice
Hanzo is not your typical constable. He is well known in Edo. He is equal parts Dirty Harry, Robocop, and John Holmes. Hanzo's techniques are far from clean. His ends justify his means. (IMDB Comments)

I found the presentation quite novel, with the blaxpoloitation-esque score. But to put it mildly, I found it difficult to identify with a "cop" who blackmails colleagues, mutilates suspects, and frames allies for murder, whose idea of consensual sex works the same way as identifying a putative witch: wait to see if she consents mid-rape. Call me crazy, but I don't see rapists as likable protagonists.

From a feminist standpoint, this has to be a very, very problematic film; Hanzo is a BADASS "samurai cop" swinging his natural sword (his cock) inside the rectums of females with potential information on the crime syndicates he's after... Sordid and elegant at the very same time, it presents the sleaze with rare finesse; visually restrained but thematically incontinent - it's a god damn pleasure.

Fantastic editing, but not much of a movie, mostly because it's so determined to shock that it forgets to include a story worth telling.

Bloody, perverted, action-packed and with an absolutely great soundtrack. Perfectly directed from the first to the last second. Definitely the best samurai film I've ever seen.

WTF, since when is rape a police interrogation tactic? I guess it's a parody of the popular S&M films of the day, but this is still a pretty weird flick.

Haha. Leave your morals at home folks, and enjoy this for what it is, sleazy and perverted entertainment, complete with a too-cool-soundtrack. If you're in badly need of substance in your movies, you can view it as a big kick in the ass on every authority you've ever had a problem with.

Hanzo is terrible, but that makes him an interesting character to watch. He uses any method available to get what he wants; we've seen plenty of torturing and blackmail in movies, but this dude legit rapes girls and then they fall for him (?). So that's bound to shock people, but to be honest, the second rape is silly, as she is hung up and spins on his weenie. Anyway, ultimately it's an entertaining samurai flick with some cool shots and action, and the blaxploitation soundtrack is unexpected.

If you are only as strong as your weakest part, Hanzo is numero uno, bar none.. Beautiful camerawork, so-so action scenes, interesting film. As hehejaja stated, this doesn't do wonders for women.

The character of Hanzo is indefensible. He is a sadomasochistic rapist and killer, and an ambitious climber, not above using blackmail to get up the greasy pole. But it's interesting to see him work. Clearly a new openness had entered Japanese movies at the time, and this is an odd exploration of its boundaries.

Narrative strung together with used dental floss and lots of weird rape fantasy. Bad fights. Boring. I truly struggled to get through it. I would recommend it to no one.
