As a viewer, you wonder how one is able to let go of personal, material recollections. Until you hear the intimacy behind it's memory; good, bad, or funny, you won't realize the true nature of it's nostalgia. Hearing/saying the words are enough to reimagine the beauty, much of what HF invites us here to do.

Self absorbed but very intriguing. Frampton takes an interesting concept and executes it perfectly with interesting interplay between the images and narration. He builds a nice sense of anticipation that keeps things moving while the film as a whole explores the vagaries of memory.

I wonder if David Markson has ever seen that movie. If he did, it makes great sense. I didn't like this, nor did I liked Wittgenstein's Mistress.

Good idea. Without knowing anything about the intention of the filmmaker, it would seem to be open to interpretation on a number of levels.

hollis frampton burns some of his photographs while talking about them. the trick is that his narration comes one photograph early, maintaining some sense of anticipation. pretty neat.
