Damn, this is probably the realist movie I've seen.

I'm happy for those who get it, glad you could find something good in this 5h movie, but in my opinion there's no sense in making this 5h long movie where you find a full 30 minutes equilibrium class (nothing special, the 5 relevant minutes could have been understood without the rest), 30 for full reading of a short story and questions, and some other like those. Acting is also not that good in most cases. Could last standard 1.30h and at least be decent, this way it looks like torture to me.

Viewed August 13, 2021. The film's length enables Hamaguchi to really inhabit a moment and explore the minute differences in communication that occur among a group of people. But at five-and-a-half hours, I was surprised that the film didn't bowl me over by the time it ended, that the situations and characters remained more on the surface, that Hamaguchi's various narrative threads seemed so carelessly thrown together by the time the film comes to its conclusion.
