The theatrical rendition of the 6th Harry Potter book really let me down. As a dedicated reader and re-reader of all the books I have generally liked the past 5 movies, however this one fell flat. The movie carelessly strayed from the story line of the book and left out important details, almost to the point where it was hard to follow what was going on. Worse still, many of the events which were portrayed were badly altered and almost unrecognizable. The acting however, was quite good.

Flows like a drunken walk home, haltingly jumping to the next scenes before truly finishing what is set up in the former. Its not a very good book to movie transition, lacking most of the emotional impacts of the novel. However, it is still pretty fun to watch, and not a terrible movie continuation of the series. I am happy they are splitting the last book into two movies, it won't feel as rushed (even at 3hrs I felt I was in a speeding bullet train).

Every scene doesn't follow the previous one effectively, a lack of balance harms the film and the 2nd part (featuring the romantic bits) was too silly for my taste. The story left me fairly indifferent aswell. I always liked the look of those films, the camera work and how every actor breathes life into their character. Alan Rickman may be the most charismatic actor at the moment. I hope the last films will be worth the wait.

For fans of the series, HBP was a disappointment to those who knew the importance of this book. HBP is more of a comedy with a little drama, instead of having the dark, dramatic plot needed to lead to the final installment of the series. The development of the supposed relationships built in HBP is severely lacking and the ending is anti-climatic, when it should be the most important part of the movie. While a good movie, HBP doesn't completely set the viewer up for the end of the series

If you haven't read this book, do not watch this movie. If you haven't read the book, this movie is in fact pretty awful. Suffering from something like extreme Golden Compass syndrome, the scenes chosen seem pretty arbitrary and don't explain the plot fully, the main plot is shifted aside to make way for loads of romance and it is, by all accounts, impossible to follow if you don't already know it well. A decent film, a must-see for a Potter fan, but something of a disappointment nonetheless.

A cold, unimaginative entry in a franchise that now exists solely for those too emotionally invested to view it objectively. The greater arc of the film series seems jettisoned in favor of an completely forced romantic subplot. The characters that seemed so well established in earlier films are relegated to cameos or behave inconsistently; with the titular protagonist at his most impotent and least prone to meaningful action. Yates seems unsure how to direct, relying on cliche and bland imagery.

The Harry Potter franchise took a massive dip with this film, which is disappointing as it was an amazing book. I suppose, now that the series is officially finished, that the screenwriters knew what minor characters they could just write out. And so they did. And the cute trio that we've grown up with no longer can hold a scene just off their ability to be cute. Their lack of real acting diversity is honestly painfully evident. Still, it's held afloat on the strength of the franchise.

Despite Radcliffe's shockingly weak performance, Yates makes this film soar in a way that no other installment has. With a markedly divergent cinematographic stylization, the movie's atmosphere is frankly splendid and truly electrifies the audience in a LOTR-esque manner. Watson and Grint have clearly matured as actors, and while the story gets off to a slow start, it swells into a stunning, swinging saga by the mid-end. All that holds this series back are Rowling's terrible characters.

This film lacked the emotional impact that was so important in the book. The funny scenes were good for a chuckle but the emotional scenes left much to be desired; the tower scene at the end especially fell flat due to some of the changes they made.

A Harry Potter film that remains properly mysterious and foreboding for the entire runtime. I enjoyed the elaborate storytelling and given how involved it all is, perhaps this is the most adeptly paced of all the films. The drama is weighty, nuanced and effectively portrayed, even if, as ever, it's incredibly dark throughout. The coy romance stuff often seems a little at odds given how mature the overall tone is, and I would have liked to see more time dedicated to the supporting characters.

One of the better films in the series, for the most part finds a good mixture between the romance and the plot. By this point they seem to have decided that they've strayed far enough from the books already that they've decided to cut and add material so the film works as part of a whole, a spiritual adaptation, rather than an direct adaptation of the book, and it's mostly working.

I must commend the film for taking the biggest weakness of the book, the teenage relationship drama, and turning it into a running subtext that punctuates but rarely distracts from the film, although there's still more of it than I'd like. Even with that though, the film never quite got going and while it's exciting and enjoyable it lacks a certain oomph or any strong powerful moment to make it shine.

There's some beautiful visuals, but they also entered the field which is interested of kids only. I found all teenage scenes not much interested either. Replaces plot and narrative with poor lighting and monochrome color all in hope that you won't know the difference. Also makes the assumption that longer is better. So while the last fifteen minutes is the only plot that matters, again they hope that you don't notice that. [Rifftrax does an amazingly good job with this one considering nothing actually happens. Our boys almost seem to excel the more nothing happens on screen.]

The stakes got raised a lot at the end of Goblet, but what this one does, more than any of the previous films, is crank up the emotion. Dumbledore's death was sad. The characters and their relationships with each other are blossoming and it's endearing. Though Hermione breaking down about Ron while talking to Harry was a great scene, her/Ron makes less sense than her/Harry, something I think JK admitted herself. Even still, most of what's going on feels earned.

This latest installment of the Harry Potter franchise may not be the most coherent, but I found it the most enjoyable one together with The Prisoner of Azkaban. Having watched it with a bunch of friends, I found it quite hilarious at many occasions and visually impressive. The screenplay however is questionable, especially at the unfortunate event, and without having read the book it probably is hard to follow. It will be interesting to see how they tackle book 7 from here on.

Yates is the right director for this series. Not only is he capable of blending the darker themes the later books carry but he is also able to keep it accessible to a younger crowd just as the book is written. Yes things are changed in the movie but it seems to me that he kept what's important and retains the Harry Potter charm while keeping it relatively short. The series keeps getting better and better.

This film works better than the rest because the characters are slightly more interesting. Harry battles both his burgeoning desire for Ginny, as well as the villains of the film. However, he's less of a petulant dick than he is in the novel (which is probably a good thing). Still, these characters show signs of growth. Again, and I can include this in every Harry Potter film review, Rickman is an absolute delight. Also, the best looking film of the series (w/o having seen the final two).

I'm finding myself becoming a fan, giving the movies more of a chance than before. Enjoyed the flick. Sadly, Dumbledore's death was all fizzle. I didn't get hit with any emotional response, and found myself paying more attention to the overly-glorified scene of him falling than to the context of his actual death. Also, there was more "romantic", read: pseudo-sexual, content than I expected to see, which at times, sadly again, detracted from the flick. But I'm sure it was the best of the series.

Wonderful! I could not be more pleased with the directer and writer for the adaptation! The attention to detail for those of us who love the books is outstanding, and only adds to the film for those who do not know the books. Wondefully paced with great acting, as usual, and great special effects and music. I was pleased with Gambon's performance, which I wasn't expecting, and thought the new-to-this-movie cast were brilliant! Yay! I'm thrilled this beloved book is now a beloved movie!

Compared to the other entries in this franchise this one does a good job of portraying a semi-normal year at Wizard School - something the books manage to do very well as they aren't constricted by time. However, while the film does this well, and again the performances from our leads get stronger and stronger, the actual plot is left to be pieced together by reading the book - the title macguffin barely enters into proceedings, and the film feels like a stopgap between films 5 and 7.

Textbook "Okay" movie. I'm sure it would make a whole lot more sense if you'd read the book. There's too much "good ol'" and "ya'know" stuff in here, and the teen romance part is very clumsily handled. And why is Harry Potter so special, can anyone tell me that? What can he actually do, that's so very fucking mindbogglingly amazing? This, and other questions remain unanswered, including why Hermione digs idiot Ron, when clearly she'd be better off with me! no! Potter! Ah nuts...

Another entertaining entry in what since Prisoner of Azkaban has been a consistently fun fantasy series. The cinematography in this one is quality, as are Jim Broadbent as Slughorn and Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy. There are a few changes from the book I'm leery of (I could have done with a little less teen romance and little more Voldemort backstory), but it's a nice transition into the final act of the saga.

The usual flaws that apply to most of the series apply here as well, so I won't bother going over them again, but this movie works better than most of the rest of the series for a few reasons: a better sense of humor, effective excising of relatively unimportant scenes, and possibly the best photography, save for Azkaban, in the series so far. It doesn't take itself too seriously, but it does the dramatic scenes very well.

Part VI -- Pot VI -- comes close to a complete cheat. The once child actors, children no more, are developing faster than the story, and indeed the foretold war with the Dark Lord tends here to be crowded out by assorted amorous hankerings among Hogwarts classmates. (Those broomsticks for games of Quidditch are now looking more phallic than at first.) Whatever climax we had built to by the end of episode five, directed as was this one by Yates, is no longer in evidence

The story, 'though it continues to get darker, becomes sweeter as the main characters deal with opposite-sex relationships. Most films in the series are too visually dark. There are scenes in this film that are almost completely white, and when Harry tells Ron and Hermione in a special moment, "I'd forgotten how beautiful this place is," I was thinking the SAME THING. Films 2 through 5 seem to have forgotten what a beautiful, wondrous place Hogwarts is, and this film remembers.
