Harvie Krumpet

An excellent story of a character that means nothing to the world, but everything to a handful people and ultimately, himself. One of the more empathetic films I have seen.

Excellent short story about the ironie of life...Fakt 1034: Life is like a Zigarette, smoke it to the butt!

One funny line amidst this sad, ugly, mean-spirited short. It's not even that funny. The better qualities most others attach to this don't seem to hold water.

this is nothing short of a miracle, a wonderful story narrated by an extremely competent person, and the art work is great. it's funny and sad at the same time, and i really dont know how to feel at the end.

Fakt 1035: Adam Elliot is awesome.

Amusing little dark comedy.

"Retarded migrant becomes human magnet!" Harvey Krumpet, a victim to the world, a stoic everyman fighting against the existential nothingness, the void threatening to engulf us all... AND the main character in one awesome short story at turns sad and funny. Points for thougtful, minimalist claymation technique as well. Less is indeed more. Above all other things, however, was Harvey's tongue and lip ticks - with their "doouuuh!" sound. They never failed to make me smile!

Not really that funny or engaging

doesn't hold a candle to mary & max. it's nowhere near as insightful and is pretty much identical to that movie, except worse. but it has its moments.

Amazingly entertaining. It's original and ingenius, covering a full life, with all of its richness and brushes of absurdity. And it's probably one of the best short films I have ever seen, animated or otherwise.

Best short animated movie ever.Literally changed my life and outlook on life.

A successful way of portraying one ordinary, but kinda un-ordinary life of this man through the telling of the most significant (usually weird) parts of his life, from birth to near death. The claymation in this is wonderful, but is probably the most colourful we'll see from Elliot.

It's funny and it's true... Nursing homes do have fake bus stops to appease Alzheimers patients. Life is like a cigarette...

From the little I have seen from Adam Elliot, I can take away one thing. The man is very good at conveying beauty in sadness.

"The Bible was written by the same people who thought the Earth was flat..." Funny but sad. Tragically Hilarious.

4/9/9 - Wonderful. Beautiful, heartwarming, funny and sad. Wonderful characters and art, a great story, some excellent jokes and pitch-perfect narration. Truly, truly touching.

Harvie learns the best way to deal with tragedy and bad luck is to seize the day and smoke life to the butt; animation used cleverly several times, aesthetically eh, minimalist; darkly funny but more dark than funny; "heartwarming"

Not bad, but far from the minor classic it's made out to be.

Clever animation but ordinary tale

sad and hilarious in only 20 minutes.

Such a sad and morbid story. From the moment Harvey is born, he has bad luck until the very end. It's almost makes you feel awful, but you can't help but laugh at how unlucky the goofy looking Harvey can be. In the end, it's actually a somewhat uplifiting short, reminding you that it could always be worse.

Simple, darkly funny tale about one man's life. It's a beautiful and somewhat brilliant look at life.

This had the potential to plunge headfirst into the overly maudlin or overly mean, but managed to keep its balance and came out bizarrely heartwarming.

A cruel and morbid animation laced with desultory goofiness and intermittently ironic pungency.

The short precursor to, and kind of rough sketch for, Mary and Max. After making a few shorter shorts about fictional family members, Adam Elliot is here completely settled into his brand of humor that consists in mocking the misfortunes of his extravagantly unfortunate characters. It does end with a mischievous smirk on Harvie's behalf (after it is done having fun at his expense) but it is still nowhere as clever, focused or purposeful as Mary and Max.

Sporting the same morbid humour as the longer, bigger budget Mary and Max, this 20-minute short meanders along tolerably without doing much. Watchable but instantly forgettable, with Rush's narration the highlight.

Fantastic animation. A weak ending is the only thing standing between this film and greatness.

Falls a bit towards the very end, but oh my god.
