A no-barriers documentary showing the last great rock and roll act of the Twentieth Century. It's disgusting, funny, honest, and shocking; everything GG Allin was when he was alive.

Probably better than Allin deserves. Phillips-- who amazingly went on to direct frat comedy fave "Old School" 10 years later (the two could not be more different)-- deserves all the credit in the world for having the gumption to follow this attention-starved clown around while undertaking the sisyphusian task of trying to make sense of the incomprehensible. Why is GG like this? How did he get this way? Phillips does his best to fit together a bunch of pieces from several different puzzles.

Thank God for the cinema because it's the best and safest way to get to know GG Allin, who has the be the most provocative, depraved, and downright hilarious rock-star of the century he lived fast in. We also get to take a look at his fellow band members, his fans (who were willing to kill themselves if Allin did so), his old school-buddies, his old school-teachers, and those who just didn't quite understand what a grotesque performance artist the man was.

"For every indulgence, there was something else he denied himself as a means to the end." Captures his aesthetic, finds real meaning in his nihilism, and balances the more revolting facts of his persona with the appeal his total rejection of everything has to anyone who's ever felt alienated. GG himself seems to be the only one in the film who can sum up what he was really about, and does it with disarming eloquence: "My mind's a machine gun, my body's the bullets, the audience is the target."

What a horrible horrible human being. Not just GG Allin, but pretty much every one featured in this film.
