Hateship Loveship

I love Kristen Wiig. The movie itself? Eh...

Just a simple human story that takes very different turns from what you think you see coming.

Slow paced.

Hateship Loveship is a film for which I fall into the former category, although that's far too harsh a reaction to a film like this one. It can't generate that sort of emotion, one way or another. I watched it and found it boring, but I struggle to hate it. There are no redeeming qualities to it, but it's so mundane that I couldn't bring myself to find true disdain for it. Kristen Wiig was the wrong lead -- although none of the actors get to do much -- and the entire premise is ridiculous.

Kristen Wiig is unassumingly great, fully committing to her character's shy, muted demeanor even when the film around her doesn't quite live up to the richness of her performance.

This is another one to add to the list of recent superlative female performances in the last few years. They just keep coming. If a lack of action or "character driven" defines a chick-flick, then I guess this one qualifies. But for me, its tone just doesn't put it in that category. And even for those who don't believe in awards, the melding of the truly imaginative screenplay with Kristen Wiig's superb, often wordless performance of it, would probably prompt a lot of them to make an exception m

An almost emotionless story with a title of that was a bit misleading viewers. All points for Kristen Wiig and her gentle facial acting.

Unconventional narrative arc-- has a very slow start. The characters are not like any I'd seen before with their small idiosyncrasies, which keeps you interested just trying to figure out everyone's angle. Acting is solid. Overall it's a quirky and sweet film.
