Haunted Spooks

A pretty funny Lloyd short, though it's very awkwardly paced, spends way too long on the preliminaries, and too little on the haunted house.

time has forgotten lloyd for a reason, he just wasn't quite funny enough.

Things were changing pretty rapidly for Lloyd in 1920: suddenly, everything's longer, has an obviously bigger budget, and evinces a distinct lack of Bebe Daniels and Snub Pollard. All and all, Lloyd (and Hal Roach, for that matter), seem pretty up to the challenge, and offer up a smooth, varied picture. It is something of a groaner when you realize why they set the haunted house in the South and used that title, though they don't actually stretch that aspect of things out much, at least.

Probably deserves to be confined to the dustbin of history, not just for its racial stereotyping, but also its uninspired set pieces. It does predate Keaton's Hard Luck in coming up with gags about failed sucide attempts, so there's that at least.

I had high hopes for this but found it very disappointing. The print I saw was quite bad, perhaps that had something to do with it.

Some unfortunate racist bits, but it was 1920 after all.

The "guy trying and failing to kill himself" never gets old :), this was over all a pretty funny short, even if the haunted house part wasn't my favorite

Suicide has never been funnier.

Took way too long to get along to the main plot point of the movie which was having to stay at the house.
