This is my least favourite type of noir, where the lead makes stupid decisions and is in a constant panic the whole film. Still, when it's done right I can enjoy them, and this one does it mostly right. A lot of credit goes to Garfield whose flashes of fear and anger feel very natural. It's pretty tense and the dynamic between Garfield's holed up criminal and the family he stows away with is the most interesting part.

An effective late Garfield film with an interesting Dalton Trumbo screenplay. Garfield looks tired, but has good support from George, Winter and Ford.

While there's nothing outstanding about this man-on-the-lam noir, it's a fine example of the genre. Garfield is terrific and Winters is amazing as always. There's a good amount of location work, which is always a plus, although most of it is in the front of the film. The rest of it is mostly confined to one set, and this turns out to be the one major drawback. As a viewer I started to long for more forward notion. But it's a fine piece of work for noir fans, with some good photographic elements.

Conhecendo a história da pessoas por trás desse filme (Berry, Trumbo, Garfield) fica difícil não lê-lo com subtexto do marcarthismo, toda tensão e paranoia das situações envolvendo o protagonista é um retrato da Hollywood do período.
