Embarrassing piece of shit that actually does its best to make the Grenada invasion seem like a good idea. You'd have to be psychic to guess that Eastwood would later be regarded as one of the best directors in America

Very weak Clint Eastwood movie, though I wish I could do that to every sissy I see wearing an earring.

Man I love this movie. This is Clint Eastwood at his most Clint Eastwood and he rocks. All the actors are good in this and do a great job with their rolls. Yes it's somewhat over the top but that's what really makes it work.

It's a bit like Police Academy, but with a dead serious and misplaced Clint Eastwood as the main star.

I love how it plays like most Eastwood's directing efforts: a character profile that refuses to use big-scale imagery to depict deep themes as this notion of a war hero with no war to be fought. He reduces it to a master-disciple routine of being hated and adored, with conflicts being thrown at us in the form of acid comic dialogues and some histrionic acting. The fact the Eastwood himself doesn't takes it too serious, using bad language and being ironic the whole time, makes it even better.

It’s comforting to assume that time will eventually cover these mishaps under a layer of dust, and that the unfortunate cinemaphile that takes the effort to blow it off gets a look at how the cliches in movieworld were shaped in 1986, and how valuable movies from that period are that were actually good.

Occasionally quite funny, and oddly emotional, "Heatbreak Ridge" is packed full of one-liners so much so that much of this film feels like "Full Metal Jacket - The Light & Shite Cut". On top of the actually fairly solid script are several layers of the finest homoerotic tension ever seen on screen outside of "Top Gun" and "The Running Man". I'm pretty sure I saw several Marines pitching tents in this movie, with Clint ramping up the man-tension!

Clint's tough guy demeanor is really out of control in this film. He squints even harder than usual.

Clint Eastwood growls at black people, gets them to conquer Grenadan Superpower.

Didn't know Clint directed it. Guess that makes it quite self-indulgent. It's trashy, but enjoyable enough.

All in all quite disappointing. However, the acting by Clint Eastwood makes it still an enjoyable moovie. Also a good perfomance by Marsha Mason.

At the beginning, I thought it had potential. But, I was damn wrong! I can't still believe; how on earth have Eastwood accepted this role? Damn, I have never seen a hardcore homophobic film like this. What's more it must have written by a homophobic homo writer! And what about Corporal 'Stitch' Jones? He simply freakmed me out, no man I don't wanna see (even recall)that acting again and how come someone can stand the sight of him?

This is not the best war movie but it has a lot of entertaining moments. Clint Eastwood plays his usual strong, tough character again and he is great at it. The romantic part of the story is not very exciting but the training and war scenes are interesting. Overall I recommend this movie.

Clint Eastwood as a crusty old military man, whipping a bunch of delinquent misfits into shape, sounds pretty tame and unoriginal. it's good enough for a watch, but this movie is not what made Eastwood great.

Interesting characterizations in the formulaic ragtag bunch of misfits would've made this serviceable boot camp drama more compelling, but Eastwood's tailor-made drill sergeant is still a treat to watch as he tells off his superior officers, shucks off his young platoon's rebellions with ease, gets into quick brawls and spews one vulgar witticism after another. Good thing he knows a colonel who sees things his way, if only because they served together a long time ago or something.

I wasn't very excited to watch this movie, for some reason, but when I saw Gunny beating the crap out of some dude in prison, it bought me. Eight there.

Like hellboy76 says, very few things beat watching Eastwood being an asshole for 2 hours. Overly long indeed, very silly self-centric plot lines, but hey - it's Eastwood. He can do anything. Many very entertaining moments, in the first 3/4rs of the film.

I was really surprised by how bad this film is. I didn't care about any of the characters which made it hard to watch. I got bored rather quickly and wanted to turn it off less than halfway through. I didn't but it wasn't worth it.
