Like the increase of pinhead role but not as good as the first.

This represents one of those rare cases wherein a scare sequel equals, and in some instances surpasses, the original. It offers an ever escalating procession of nightmare set pieces that succeed in being both darkly comic and genuinely chilling. (As Pinhead at one point proclaims, "Your suffering will be legendary -- even in hell!") Highlights include imaginatively grotesque sets, horrific FX that outnightmare Elm Street, and one of the sickest heavy petting scenes I've ever seen

Disappointing sequel. Some striking images and one scene that hits the eroticism/body horror sweet spot of the original but as a story it's a mess.

More visually ambitious than the first one, but also more of a mess. Still too little of the cenobites, despite the characters going to supposedly their realm.

A few screams and lots of red. The problem with the film it's not very scary.

We get to see Pinhead's origin, find out more about the cenobites, meet a mad brain surgeon, implied sex with skinless Julia, visit an insane asylum and make a descent into a labyrinthine hell. The pre-credit sequence is completely unnecessary, especially since it is followed by the Pinhead origin, which would have been a fine sequence to start with.

It's saved by great effects, gruesome imagery & great lead performances from Ashley Laurence & Kenneth Cranham, but it has a lot of problems. The biggest of them, of course, is how it takes all the mystique & allure of the Cenobites and flushes it down the toilet for absolutely no reason. Even less of the plot makes sense than in the first movie, "Hell" itself is pretty bland, & the Pinhead character has lost all its charm. There's nothing special to this, really- it's just kind of there.

"Nothing personal babe." Classic one-liner. Good campy fun. Christopher Young comes back to score this one.
