When asked what my favorite Craig Sheffer movie is I always think Nightwatch or The Goonies, but then I realize that that's Josh Brolin. Then I say this movie, but eventually remember it's actually his other Clive Barker movie Nightbreed. It's probably best not to ask me what my favorite Craig Sheffer movie is.

I've heard legends that if you sync this movie up with the self-titled Stone Sour LP, a portal opens to your local Hot Topic.

Another of the continuing adventures of Pinhead. This time, the story is disjointed, confusing and apparently Pinhead has been reduced to teaching morality lessons rather than dishing out pain.

Surprisingly good to be honest. It breaks the Hellbreaker mold of Pinhead set in the original two films (but 3 and 4 already did that for the worst). At least in this version Pinhead still has a set of rules to follow beyond "stereotypical villan." Craig Sheffer provides the best acting in the Hellraiser series without a doubt. The cinematography is quite impressive for such a low budget film. Certainly enjoyable as a horror flick and personally I think it's the best Hellraiser film.

10 minutes total with cenobites, the rest is some awfully weak attempt at se7en-type crime drama. I loved every Hellraiser up to and included Hellraiser IV, but this one was truly bad.

Hellraiser meets noir. You could appreciate the attempt if it weren't for the fact that the whole Hellraising business guest-stars in it's own movie. And how many scenes can one really endure watching, when they all end with "... and then the protagonist wakes up!!"

And with episode 5 comes another low point for the seemingly invincible hellraiser franchise. This ignores the Hellraiser legacy (with the exception of the box and a curtesy call by pin-head) to focus on 'inner demons' and frankly, its rubbish.

A great 'second best' movie in the hellraiser movie series and a great comeback from the previous two. Although they could/should have chosen a better actor for the role of the main character, the story was thrilling (less horror and more thriller is the motto here!). Loved the ending!! It was very much à la 'Groundhog Day'.

The first of two movies treading in "it was all a dream" land... the lead is a womanizing, sociopathic "bad cop"... and we're supposed to empathize with him?

Starts off rather promising with decent cinematography and a relatively subtle buildup, but there's too much stupid nonsense and bad acting undermining the whole thing. Barely even feels like a Hellraiser movie and Pinheads motivations are vague at best. Hilarious triple fake-out ending.

As a Hellraiser movie, this is a complete and utter failure, and I can see why someone coming into it expecting Hellraiser would hate it. As a movie on it's own, however, it is an impressive psychological thriller despite some pretty bad acting. If it would have had a different title and the box and Pinhead were replaced by other things, I think this movie would get a lot more love.

Rewatch. My formula for a good Hellraiser movie: less than an hour of the runtime consists of vague spooky platitudes and desperate attempts to explain the Cenobite's origins, why they're here, and repetitions of people screaming one another's names. This is easily the best in that regard, with every other movie in the franchise failing this test horribly.

It's not that bad of a movie, really... It might not be a great Hellraiser movie, but it can be enjoyable if you don't mind aspects of the Hellraiser franchise taking a backseat to somebody else's supernatural cop drama screenplay.

In 9th grade, a Christian friend invited me to her church for what I think was called a "hell play". It was this basic morality thing where shitty acting teens would pretend to booze it up or have premarital blahblah then they'd die and go to hell (red theater lighting and a sound effects tape) where an allegedly scary "demonic" voice would tell them how they fucked up. Anyway, that wasn't quite as good as this, but it's the same thing, really. (show, don't tell, fuuuuck)

(SPOILER ALERT): Hellraiser entered DTV land with Inferno, a rather piss poor continuation of the series that had nothing to do with previous installments. Kudos to the creators for trying something new, but the noirish elements are badly integrated (re: the voiceovers are terrible) and the plot steals too blatantly from other 90's thrillers. The real problem is that Sheffer's character is completely unsympathetic _and_ uninteresting, so his grisly fate has no impact whatsoever. Pointless.

Passable series entry feels like a standard 90s TV cop thriller, with Pinhead and his goons awkwardly added as an afterthought (and production data confirms this to be true!) Pretty much more of the same, without any serious scare moments or much else to recommend it; it's always nice to see Joosten though, even in an absurdly marginalised role.

This has better actors, solid direction & even some new Cenobites that are worthy of the originals. But they go away & it becomes clear this isn't really a Hellraiser movie but a mystery about a bad cop possibly losing his mind. The problem is we know the Cenobites better be real or the film will truly suck, so we're left impatiently asking 1 question: why is Pinhead fking around so much? We wind up w/ a story that would've worked best as a 30 min Twilight Zone episode drawn out to 100 mins.

as the first non-theatrical hellraiser movie this one can only surprise. the fifth iteration of the hellraiser is just as effective, but with a budget about one fifth the size of the smallest previous movie. it keeps it's scares, and ends up wrapping the cenobites into a pretty decent plot. i can't complain about that.

Yet another Jacob's Ladder clone, it's still the best one since the first sequel, though you get sense that the script probably didn't start out as a Hellraiser film.

Hellraiser without the Hellraiser. This is clearly a thriller with a shoehorned Pinhead element. That being said, it's considerably better than the last two entries. Sure, the acting sucks and the script is convoluted and sometimes nonsensical, but Scott Derrickson has a solid early outing as director and some of this stuff is actually pretty creepy. It's just not the worst, which is surprising following the trend these films have been following.

One of the most profound Hellraiser films I've ever seen, and that was a complete and utter shock to me. On the surface, it appears to be a typical procedural cop drama/mystery, but the further the film gets, the more it unravels. As a Hellraiser film, it feels nothing like the first four movies, but I'm okay with that, as even though Pinhead is barely in it at all, his relevance is dire, and I love what he's doing. It finally made sense in a much deeper sense.

Surprisingly good entry for a franchise that went downhill after the first film. It's just too bad the story is too thin to justify its running time.
