A remake of The Mayor of Hell (1933). A lesser version with Stanley Fields being a comical mob boss. While it starts off lighthearted, it takes a darker turn toward the end with a chilling scene following the tragedy with the kid's rebellion bubbling. Hell's Kitchen is a completely different picture with Fields out of it. Gets dramatic, but with all the short-cuts in the script one wishes they had focused less on Fields and more of The Dead End Kids for a more rewarding effect.
