The first of two films starring husband/wife team of Harry Bannister/Ann Harding. The two had absolutely no chemistry. This is another poor early talkie. Harding is the most professional thing in it, but even she looks uncomfortable. The men are hopelessly lost. At least Elmer Ballard brings some unintentional laughs with his brutal attempts at acting like a shell shocked man, but that's not enough to save this terrible blackmail/murder picture which was based on a flopped Broadway play.

VERY early talkie. Interesting viewing if only as a point of reference for just how far movies came in a very short period of time. The sets look almost like theater sets, and there is pretty much zero visual atmosphere, and the sound is solid if a bit uneven--both were immensely improved inside of three short years. The writing is just as stilted as the acting... plot and characters are barely fleshed out enough to merit being a called a melodrama (which it is).
