On par with other minor Disney movies like "The Great Mouse Detective" and "Oliver and Company". It's a fun movie, the animation is fine, but it's not a classic, not one that every generation will see like some Disney movies.

Less than the sum of its parts. Meg and Hades are fun, as are some of the songs, but Hercules himself is bland as oatmeal, the humor is forced and clunky, and every single story beat is painfully predictable. You could say it doesn't... go the distance. *gets shot*

Slaughters much of Greek Mythology, but carries a darker edge than most Disney movies dare to. James Woods is truly the star as Hades and Danny DeVito creates a likeable character in Phil.
Also, the music was good, but the film suffers from the fact that the main character was rather bland.

Very good Disney movie made during a period when Disney were making some very bland, boring stuff: Mulan, Pochahontas, The Emperor's New Groove, Tarzan, et al. "Hercules" is fun and energetic, and one of the best Disney films of the era.

I have a love/hate relationship with this film: the visual design, fast-talking James Woods AKA Hades and Meg (iconoclastic, nuanced and smart-aleck, so highly subversive for Disney) are near genius. The rest, which is either the "traditional Disney" elements or the (Gospel) Chorus, feel shoehorned and awkward, like they had to do it and/or got bored. This creative team reached better ground with The Emperor's New Groove.

This movie is a tonal mess. It moves drastically between laughs with the silly villain and the wacky side characters until it gets deadly serious on a dime. I like most of the story but so much gets in the way.

Though not quite a masterpiece, it's a heavily underrated gem that, despite its flaws, doesn't get near the attention it deserves. Featuring great voice work, particularly from DeVito, Egan, & Woods, as well as an iconic villain and one of the most criminally underappreciated lead females on Disney's roster, it works in spite of how many liberties it takes with its source material and tells a simple (but effective) story about success and what being a hero really means. Overall, very watchable.

I enjoyed the movie, but at the same time thought that it lacked something. What it lacked is somewhat hard to pick out though. I felt that it had to do with the story. It felt like it lacked focus, moved too quickly, and didn't really get you connected to the characters as much as other Disney movies. There are great moments and songs, but it all just feels so rushed that you're left a bit underwhelmed when it is all over.

This could be largely nostalgia-driven (it's the first Disney movie I clearly remember seeing in the theaters), but damn it, I don't care, because I love this movie. The songs are awesome, the plot is surprisingly well-handled, and the characters (particularly Susan Egan and James Woods as Megara and Hades) are endlessly memorable. The last great Disney movie of the nineties, for my money, and one I can watch over and over again.

James Woods gives a phenomenal vocal performance and Nik Ranieri's animation surprisingly keeps up with it. Megara's design and sultry voice (courtesy of Susan Egan) place her among the most distinctive of Disney women, though the character is ultimately a wash. Generally livelier than the other 90s Disney cartoons. Underrated I guess

Hercules is one of if not the last of Disney's great hand-drawn features. It has a unique style of animation, and the voice acting and story are very good. The music is especially great in my opinion. Even when I worked in a movie store for two years, and this was playing at least once a week, I never really got sick of it. Really good!

Ugh…so much potential. So many good components but somehow it still fell flat. I never can remember quite what went wrong. I think they tried making “alternative” characters but were too suburbanite normcore to know how to write anyone with different motivations than them, so the characterization felt really thin for most. Hades was conceptually great, though.

Say the words “90s Disney” and you’ll know exactly what to expect from this down-the-line retelling of the Hercules myth – mixing equal parts LION KING and ALADDIN, this is reliably enjoyable (and love the opening narration!), but is almost too polished and perfect, bearing the mark of a production team who know the buttons to push for the formula, and hammer them for all they’re worth. Some nice touches here and there (the Greek chorus with a distinctly LITTLE SHOP flavour are great value).

The animation was pretty well done excluding one prominent CGI scene that hurt to watch. The story was ok but it lacked something that Disney classics have. The voice acting was excellent with some great actors voicing main characters. I was also let down by the music. Normally when I finish a Disney film I’m humming or singing songs from it. This was not the case after finishing Hercules. The film wasn’t bad by any means. It was just “fine”, which is not normal for Disney.

Disney takes an odd leap of faith with this one. The story is all over the places for the most part due to its short length and breakneck pacing. The style is present and looks great as could be expected. Hercules wins overall because of James Woods' stellar voice performance. Coming off as both evil to the bone and strangely likable all at the same time.

(2014-15 Disneython #29:) After the relatively somber darkness of Hunchback of Notre Dame, Disney reverts to Aladdin-esque Saturday morning cartoon action-adventure mode. And while it's definitely not as good as Aladdin - Hades, while amusing, lacks the menace of Jafar and De Vito's Philoctetes ain't no Robin Williams' Genie - it is amusing in its Greek mythology-meets-Gospel silliness. "I Won't Say I'm In Love" is Disney's most fun love song. CGI Hydra is lame, but the Titans look awesome.

James Woods as Hades is one of Disney's finest villains, and "Hercules" has its share of the elements that made 90's Disney so special, but with lazy anachronistic humor and a weak story, it also heralded the end of a renaissance.

Hercules was one of Dinsey's last great 2D animations before the takeover of 3D animation. It doesn't stand out for many as one of Disney's best, but I absolutely love this film. Like any other worthy Disney film, the animation is great and the characters are loveable. The soundtrack is boldly different than what we're used to from Disney too and there's so many great songs here. James Woods' voice work steals the show and Danny DeVito is humorous also. Nostalgic Disney that's sadly underrated.

Well this was the first film I saw in a cinema so I think I still have a lot of nostalgic love for it. That said it's still an entertaining film - big showtunes, a great 30s comedy dynamic between Meg and Hades (James Woods really steals the show as the villain) and some nice art design. Let down by some really odd pacing and some dated effects work, but still enjoyable, and maybe a little darker than a lot of Disney fare.

This probably isn't one of the better Disney animated films, to be honest. It's pretty formulaic (though I suppose they all are) and although I like the ancient Greek myths and such, I didn't feel they used the stories and characters very well. Disney movies are pretty much guaranteed a certain level of quality, but Hercules doesn't exactly excel in any department. An interesting way to look at it is just as a way that different societies adapt different classic tales. It's definitely very modernized and Americanized. James Woods is a great draw as Hades, but of course they go with the all-too-common version of Hades who is basically Satan with a different name.

The Greek mythology by Disney - all sexual violence, aggressive behavior, disturbing family relations and mental disorders removed. Also, poor Hades became the bad guy and Hera - in the most laughable part of the film - a good mother of the child she hated and (eventually) killed. Too bad that Greek myths actually have a great potential - even for one of those violence-free family movies.
