Pretty much the logical missing link between the Winnipeg weirdness of Guy Maddin and John Paizs and the camp phantasmagoria of late '90s Gregg Araki (the plot, to the extent there is one, even somewhat resembles Nowhere right down to the vaguely James Duval-esque lead), although unfortunately Gonick seems nowhere near as gifted or artistically disciplined as any of those aforementioned filmmakers, and the results often feel closer to a jarring mix of John Waters and Kids in the Hall.
