Hideous Kinky

Kate Winslet in a surprising role as the mother of two young girls, vagabonds in Morocco. She seeks spiritual enlightenment, but her journey is routinely sidetracked by lack of funds. Her girls are adapting to a foreign society. The story chronicles their travels and the people they encounter, with rich subtext. She takes a lover who risks his life to get them back home. Extra points for Kate topless. Also, the sweet Carrie Mullan is one to watch after this, her debut performance.

Visually beautiful, thanks to the setting, but very disjointed narratively. A more cohesive plot, married with the beautiful locations, could have produced a winner. As it is, it is great to look at, and an interesting 'experience', but not much more.

Sure the sceneries are splendid and movie works, but a story is about going nowhere.

If Kate din't seem so hot to me & the picture wasn't founded on exotic beauty i wonder if i would have walked. The "plot" is so loose a journey (which may have been the point) it heightens the realism, reality, it seems, is a tad dull.

Well, they got the hideous part right. This movie stinks. Booorrring!

Winslet plays her character's mixture of naivete and motherly concern well, and looks good doing it, as does the whole movie. The Moroccan locales are brilliantly displayed. Character development and consistent narrative are sometimes lacking.
