Hider in the House

We're all just a hider in someone else's house.

Hider in the House does deliver on a hider in the house, despite the iconic (amongst morons) image of the poster depicting the hider outside the house. Gary was aBuseyed as a kid and now he has his eyes on Mimi Rogers' mom pants. It plays pretty dark despite the inherent goofiness of mouth-breathing idiot Gary Busey sneaking around an occupied house. The opening is brutal and the end only plays for laughs when Gary kicks Michael McKean in the nuts in front of his kids.

The dumbest I've yet seen of the era's domestic thrillers, but maybe the most committed performance in Busey's loony yet almost desperately sympathetic turn as the scarred and delayed "hider". Possible wit left over from Dobbs' draft: customary symbolic castration comes not in sex but in Busey teaching the kid to kick bullies in the balls, which the kid subsequently deploys viciously and without consequence against said bullies and is excited to tell Dad about before Busey fells Dad with same.

If you did a few script edits and cast Sinbad instead of Gary Busey, this movie would be a beloved romantic comedy.

This might be my new guilty pleasure. Busey was really entertaining as the psycho.
