Hilary and Jackie (1998)
This movie tells the true story of the tragic life of the brilliant international concert cellist Jacqueline Du Pré and her sister, Hilary. Despite starting out in music together, Hilary chooses a more normal life in having a husband and children. Jacqueline gets married too but can never seem to quite achieve the happiness of the mundane life Hilary has and Hilary's devotion to her sister causes them to take some rather drastic measures in their lives. The irony of having a great musical ability fades away as Jacqueline transcends into a slow decline when struck with a deadly illness. (imdb)

Emotionally charged biopic is beautifully performed by both Watson and Griffiths, but their searing work is almost undone by a melodramatically ugly screenplay, seeking to portray Hilary as the down-trodden saint to Jackie's emotionally manipulative monster. Even if the facts of this were not in dispute, as a drama it fails because we are both shielded from Hilary's mind-set, while given a second-hand, mean spirited portrait of Jackie and her harrowing decline into illness. Still watchable.

The soundtrack worked quite well, & some of the scenes were quite good. A
couple endless circling camera scenes, and worse, that fact that the picture
was interesting without caring about the characters made the movie seem slow
& tireing.
