Seasons one and two are fantastic, three is pretty great, too. Season four feels unnecessary, but it does show one thing, and that\'s how tired the music industry has become. While the first three deal with revolutionary artists like Bambaataa, P. E., Run DMC, Ice-T, NWA, Nas, Wu-Tang, Tupac and (the early) Eminem, last season is talking about Lil Wayne, Kanye, Drake and similar crap that no one will care about in five years. And no Kendrick Lamar? Come on! S1: 90, S2: 90, S3: 80, S4:40

Score based on viewing most episodes in full. Provides a reasonably broad but relatively detailed overview with a strong regional focus and emphasis on key styles and figures while highlighting the obvious parochial mentality of the genre. This parochialism is less evident now than it was in the past (i.e the death of locality), and that is unfortunately neglected here, and the independent movement of the mid to late 90's is also shortchanged. Overall, it should appeal to old heads and new ones.
