Hired to Kill

Lead neck monster Brian Johnson passing for a fashion designer just because he puts on a quarter of a lisp is pretty desperate. One of my virtual viewing partners mentioned the fact that more than halfway through the film he is the only one in the group that's kissed a guy, so maybe not that desperate. Oliver Reed's mustache flies to the sides almost as far as his mullet does.

what's wrong with this picture? (if you get that reference, you're weirder than brian thompson looks)

The most exciting part of this action adventure is when Brian Thompson kisses Oliver Reed on the lips and gets a buzz from his booze soaked moustache.

A well-meaning but overly goofy concept action movie where the girls have the guns (but men still control them). There is some truly awful dialogue and acting, but thankfully some of it plays for laughs (albeit misogynistic ones). Has an interesting cast featuring beauty, talent, and Brian Thompson. The group dynamics are worked reasonably well. The real gem here is the stunning island fortress location which allows for many beautiful shots and camera angles. Firefights are a let down though.

It's a cool concept that Stallone should have stolen for an Expendables sequel. The film has a fun 80's "Girls on Film" feel to it; the ladies fit their parts well; Oliver Reed gets to chew some scenery and Thompson & Kennedy get the job done. It runs out of steam during the middle when the crew is under cover and action is put on hold. It picks up pace afterwards and benefits from the impressive fortress location, but all in all, it's more of a missed opportunity than a lost 80's action gem.
