they tried to mix the personality of the bourne identity with the russian theme and babes of XXX and the style from james bond... it didn't work. Also Olyphant shows to much emotions to be a cool assassin and Dougray Scott's interpol cop tries to use cynicism to look like a hard cop but also he fails to do that.

When the cop chasing the action star of your movie is a more compelling character in every way, you've got a big problem. The worst part is that it's not like it sacrificed plot for quick action, or good acting for flashy special effects, or developed characters for witty one liners, it manages to be thoroughly mediocre in every aspect. Not terrible, but undoubtedly below average in all respects.

I think this could be the very definition of mixed bag for me. There are some elements that I think were done very well and other parts make my jaw hit the floor of how poor they are. There is some stylish cinematography throughout the film but so much of the content is just downright stupid. The four way sword fight? What? There's far more to list but I only have limited space here. Can certainly be missed, fan of the video game series or not.

gotta love Ebert's review where he assumes all the worst parts - i.e. ridiculous, overlong action scenes where 47 guns down waves of dudes - stem from the game... when in fact they're all movie additions

Anti-hero Bond/Bourne without the big set-pieces of the former or the realism of the latter. Good fight scenes could have saved it but they were shit.

With Jason Statham leading and competent writers this movie could have been good. Olyphant is horrible and other american actors have the worst russian accents you have heard in a film for a while. They try to make Agent 47 likable character with stupid scenes that seem really out of place. Final nail into Hitman's coffin are the sucky action scenes.

So what originally was a pretty good movie got shit on by Fox Studios. They cut a lot of key pivotal scenes and replaced them with incomprehensible garbage. You could tell Gens was really trying to stick to the spirit of the games that this movie is based on. Even a hopelessly miscast Olyphant was trying his hardest. But ultimately the ending isn't even in the film itself. The true ending is: the big movie studio will always get their way at the expense of any and all artistic integrity.

Hitman is mediocre at best. Despite a clichéd start, I actually found the 1st act decent, but it quickly descends into forgettable nonsense. The action is uninspired but fine, but weakly-conceived characters and a by-the-numbers plot make the film uninteresting. Secret organisations, Eastern European gangs, a comical appearance of the CIA, all rendered impotent. Olyphant is too suave to convincingly pull off cold assassin, and honestly doesn't try. And I haven't even played the game.

Timothy Olyphants acting is rather robotic in this. The real highlight is the incredibly beautiful Olga Kurylenko who owns every scene she is in. This is a typical high drama spy type movie with several over the top scenes and very little supporting glue to hold it all together. Worth watching, but ultimately forgettable. Except for Olga, she will stay with me.

There's something amiably absurd about the world's most elusive assassin parading around with a big bar code on his big bald head like its nothing to see here. Maybe that's why Slavoj Zizek included Hitman in his 2012 Sight & Sound top 10 films of all time. Personally, I like the sequel quite a bit more than this garbled but amusing mess. Pick your poison I guess.

Easily one of the best video game adaptations I've seen. By any other metric, however, it is at best a mediocre film. Hitman's not completely uninteresting, but too much stuff is left unexplained for that to really count for much. (Also, it's one thing to play a hitman in a video game, it's another to be expected to root for one in an action movie where he's murdering people left and right.)

Mediocre in every way. Olyphant is badly miscast here, which is a shame, since he can be good in the right movie. He's not much of a silent assassin. He spends half his time looking like a scared boy and the other half blowing people away with machine guns. Hardly subtle.

Tell me this was supposed to be a comedy? Olyphant looks like he's suffering from a bad case of constipation. Let this be a lesson for all you film makers dreaming of filming F.E.A.R. or even Mass Effect: whereas certain corny elements and clichés are allowed and accepted in games, in films they tend to cause a strong negative reaction. Or at least they should. Well, luckily I didn't pay the 3E to see this piece of bald shit.

A really mediocre action film. Some of the action is far more brutal and gory than I expected, but the film overall is boring and Timothy Olyphant's cold, dead portrayal of Agent 47 really helps to make the movie even more unentertaining. I did respect, however, that there was no kiss in the movie and that 47 never seeks redemption. I dig that.

Whatever your rating of the Hitman games, you can't deny that they are stylish, dark, moody and have a twisted but comical sense of humor. These would all be great things to say about a film, and yet these are all things that the director apparently decided he didn't want in his movie. I'm not saying this is a particularly bad movie, it isn't. I'm just saying if I were a director I would have wanted Hitman to be my Goldfinger, not just another decent-ish action film.

A ridiculous blend of only a few action sequences, bad dialogue, worse acting, a laughable 'hero' of sorts, and a confusing, uninteresting plot. The real problem here - this film never picks up, never gets going, and never becomes involving. The sporadic shootouts can't compensate when we don't care about, understand, or believe Olyphant's character. His delivery is disarmingly laughable, much like his villain character in the recent "Live Free or Die Hard" that nearly destroyed that film.

Basing a movie on a video game doesn't often come off - in this case it's an simple action movie and so it's not deep but the characters are a little more than just 2D. There are some nice exchanges between 47 and Nika and whilst some of the set pieces don't quite work the overall effect is pretty enjoyable.

"Hitman" has all the decent action scenes of the average action flick, but also wants to be considered sophisticated. It's not. It's just filled with unconvincing conspiracies, while the titular cold-blooded murderer is eventually presented as a nice chap. The photography is of video game aesthetics, while the slow pace used to achieve the impression that "Hitman" is not what it seems to be makes it an unrewarding experience. In the end, it is exactly what it seems to be. Only a lot more boring.

Hitman is boring, forgettable, and features characters that you neither care about. Timothy Olyphant does make a convincing agent 47, but playing an emotionally cold character makes it hard for anyone to care about him. In its truest form, Hitman is truly embodied by its lead. Emotionally cold, and a film that nobody want to care about. It makes no attempts to draw you in, and even if you force yourself to stay awake through the boring and forgettable action scenes, it cannot hold your interest.
