Hits is a comedy about a paranoid municipal worker named Dave, his The Voice-obsessed 19-year-old daughter, a wannabe teenage rapper who has an unrequited crush on the daughter, and their neighbors in a small, working-class town in upstate New York. Dave finds fame when videos of his rants at City Hall go viral, and hordes of appallingly well-meaning hipsters from Brooklyn descend on their town to make sure Dave's rights aren't trampled by "the man." Totally in line with David Cross' comedic sensibilities, especially that mean-spirited asshole persona he's cultivated for himself post-Mr. Show. It has a lot of bite, but it isn't all that funny, so it is only half a successful satire. The twist at the end just about makes it worth watching, though, and I loved Adomian, Derek Waters and Wyatt Cenac as the silly hipsters. It did a good job of passing the time.

David Cross's directorial debut is an interesting satire that targets hipsters, fame obsession in this day and age, and small town politics. It doesn't always work, but I did get a lot of laughs from it. Adomian, Cenac, and Waters make a funny trio and Matt Walsh does a great job embodying the frustrated small town guy who wants to be heard.

A biting, funny, crazy movie that is less smug than I was expecting from David Cross.

Funny and smart low-key modern satire about fame and vanity in the age of Internet. Even though it's the first feature film written and directed by David Cross, he has been around the block doing stand-up comedy for a few decades. He's also co-creator of cult TV sketch comedy series Mr. Show. He's also well in touch with current YouTube era (unsurprisingly, this film was first released as BitTorrent download), so if you get his peculiar sense of humor you're in for a nice treat.

A cynical but amusing look at fame whores, liberal hipsters, small town politics and American obsession with the Constitution.
